Default Its not all about going fast

As some of you know, I don't do many miles, its all mainly around town, avoiding cyclists and pensioners. I used to make sure I took the scoob out every now and again to stretch its legs. Since selling it and getting the golf, I havent really had a spirited drive, until now!. BLOODY SHOCKING is the best way to describe the handling of a modern family hatch. Around town I had been thinking "yeah, this feels solid, safe, quiet and reasonably punchy". I had even thought of mapping it to get a few more horses, but now, there is no way. Even as standard its two quick for the chassis, suspension and wheels. It really does make you appreciate how well 'our old scoobs' handle, go and stop and how its easy to take it for granted that it will go around the corner without falling off the road, or you can even drop it down a gear and actually pass something rather than dropping it down a gear and pulling along side it to find that there is nothing left!!. Rather than going and spending even more money on making your scoob quicker, once in a while just get yourself down to your nearest mainstream dealer and take out a new family car and try to drive around some country roads at anything quicker than walking pace. I promise, you will scare yourself half to death!!!!!

RANT OVER!!!!

Now, back to pistonheads.

lol

Tell me about it, i've just sold a Peugeot 406 estate after doing 25,000 miles in it. That car doesn't know the meaning of the word 'handling'

Made me appreciate the scoob every time i got it out the garage though

I drove a diesel estate Volvo thing to Reading a few weeks ago and whilst it was quite nice and refined it was sloooow! When I got back in my Scoob later that day it was like chalk and cheese in every aspect so I fully understand where you're coming from mate!

Fully agree with the original post. Driving the Scoob every day I think it was easy to get blase about its performance and handling. Now I'm in a diesel runaround everyday, the Scoob is more of a blast to drive at the weekends: always a little shock the first time I put my foot down or go round a corner...

...equally I have to remember to ease off when I get back into the Skoda again: its not quite as hot round the corners!
