The guys in the V8 m3's originally had E46 M3's which as we all know are very capable cars, but the V8 E92's are a signficant leap forward again. I was often literally left for dust last year when I had my Z4 3.0 (240bhp). So should be fun playing this year. Difference will be I will staring at my gauges, and worrying everytime I press the loud peddle about something going bang/pop/falling off with my Blue bits under the bonnet. But the M3's will just take what ever you can throw at them, and just wan't more, and travel in comfort during it all. |

I've never understood the German naming conventions, Like why they miss out numbers, or dont follow a pattern. I'm sure there is some Logic to it, but I cant see it..
Look at EXX for Beamers, or the 99X numbers for Porsches.. |

Possibly best way to Auderath: Not sure which way you normally go when you come over. But my brother (he is a long-distance lorry driver and basically lives on the motorways in Belgium, France and Germany) just told me it might be best to go on the E40 to Aachen, then on the A4 towards Köln, at junction 9 on the A61 towards Koblenz and at junction 34 via B262 to the A48 towards Trier and Auderath. He said the other route is filled with loads of road works and one lane traffic. On the route I've just described there are also about two road works but by far not as many as on the other route. Just a hint.

Another hint: Mind the gap. The German police has found another hobby: measuring the space between the cars on the motorway. So better make sure you leave enough space. It can be up to €400 depending on how small the gap is you leave.

Don't underestimate that Hawk of yours, if might not be as quick in the twisties as your ex Evo/Tree, But I reckon the scoob will serve you very well and certainly isn't slow. Having had a E46 M3 that hawk would be very closely matched. But to throw some stats: E46 M3 power to weight of 216bhp/tonne. Hawk STI running 350bhp = power to weight of 245bhp/tonne The E92's have a power to weight of 250bhp/tonne. Classic circa 450bhp has power to weight of around 350bhp/tonne. classic 911 turbo 550bhp power to weight of around 480bhp/tonne. As I've always maintained BHP is great, but after a point, it's all about how much bottle/skill the driver has. I have no illusion that I will be properly spanked by many French cars running half my power on the ring. On paper the E92 isn't that quick compared to a modified scoob... But I've never taken much notice of paper power of figures, as a road car its about the whole experience.. |

It's the bit I marked red that is a bit strange, Nige, as it guides you along a lot of country roads through the Eiffel.
Distance: 291.8 miles (show in km) Time: 4 hr 45 min 0.0 Start: Head southeast on Rue du Président Wilson toward Rue de la Marine 0.1 Turn left to stay on Rue du Président Wilson 0.1 Turn left onto Bd Alexandre III 0.3 Turn right onto Pl. So this is the route my brother is recommending (it'll take you about 10 minutes more than the route you printed) :
Time: 4 hr 45 min 0.0 Start: Head southeast on Rue du Président Wilson toward Rue de la Marine 0.1 Turn left to stay on Rue du Président Wilson 0.1 Turn left onto Bd Alexandre III 0.3 Turn right onto Pl. Jean Bart 0.3 Continue onto Bd Sainte-Barbe 0.8 Turn right onto Av. du Stade Go through 1 roundabout 1.1 Continue onto Av. de la Libération/D635 Continue to follow D635 1.9 Keep left at the fork, follow signs for A16/E40/Ostende/Bruges/Bray-Dunes/Furnes/Veurne/Téteghem and merge onto A16/E40 Entering Belgium 9.9 Continue onto E40 92.5 Take exit 11-17-Groot-Bijgaarden for E40/E19 toward E411/Namen/Luik/Antwerpen/Luchthaven Zaventem 93.3 Merge onto E19 93.9 Continue onto E40 101.4 Slight left to stay on E40 104.3 Slight right to stay on E40 (signs for Luik/Leuven/Brussel) 183.0 continue on E40 (signs for Köln) take exit 4 (Kreuz Aachen) to stay on E40 and continue following signs for Köln Take exit 9-Kreuz Kerpen to merge onto A61 toward Koblenz 228.0 Slight left to stay on A61 264.8 Take exit 34-Mendig toward Mayen/Maria Laach 264.9 Turn left onto B262 270.0 Slight right onto the ramp to Trier Koblenz/Münstermaifeld/Mayen-Süd-zentrum/Mayen-Süd-Alzheim/A48 270.1 Keep left at the fork and merge onto B262 272.4 Merge onto A48 via the ramp to Trier 288.7 Take exit 2-Ulmen toward B259 288.9 Turn left onto B257 289.2 Continue onto B259 291.2 Turn right onto L102 291.7 Turn left onto Kirchstraße 291.7 Turn left onto Brunnenstraße 291.8 Take the 1st right onto Talstraße Destination will be on the right 291.8 Arrive at Auderath, Germany And in case you lot want to make a break, my brother said it's best to do it after you have passed Brussel. Try to get past Brussel by noon, otherwise that bit will be manic. Well, the whole route could be manic anyway because that Friday when you come over is when everyone travels home for a long weekend. |

Thank you Kerstin,
The first year we did the ring trip it was also on a German bank holiday. We then followed my sat nav and it wasn't too bad. I will get it programmed in to my sat nav. ![]() On the journey we normally stop at a big Shell service station on the E40 that has a bridge over the motorway. (its about an 1.5 hours from Dunkirk )

What route do you normally take down there? I have seen some directions on a prior post from Ian and Kerstin. I was talking to one of my Belgian colleagues and he advised that due to the bank holiday weekend to avoid the motorway (E19/ E40) around Brussels at all costs. He recommended the following which Google Maps says is 4hr 11m/ 419km:
Just wondered what route was considered the best from those that have done it before? |

The route Greg posted is definitely better than the one via Brussel. Brussel would be sort of ok if you passed it before noon. But Antwerpen is the better option. And when you enter Germany Greg's route also avoids the huge number of one lane road works. My brother said there should be only two road works (but with two lane traffic). So I think Greg's is the best route you can take.

I believe I am correct in saying that is the route Jimmy took when we meet him
just after he had built Niges Evo in 2010. But going that way does it reduce the distance travelled on the derestricted roads, it might even increase it with a bit of luck? I am not a lover of the Belgium police. Mind you he only slowed me down to have a better look at the very rare special coloured limited edition .. ![]() Taking cover.........

We do this every year
It'll be different when you look tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be fine ![]() I try to only take notice when we get to the 5 day forecast before we go. They are usually a bit more accurate |

Surprisingly grippy too. It still surprises me the lap me and Nige did in the wet, mine felt a lot more sure footed than his looked! I think James has said the same kind of thing about them, maybe its the set up? |

No probs with 888's in the wet, just standing water and big puddles that are a little dodgy

I think the route Greg has posted is the usual SatNav route to Adaneu.
Going to worzels palace, the SatNav normally takes the motorway further south then loops back. |

Just double checking, Gregs route turns left at Gent, thus missing out Brussels.
But Scott is right, doing Auderath for a map and Adenau give you 2 completely different routes from Verviers onwards. |

Using the Shell route planner, there is a shell service station on the E313 just between Bocholtz & Aachen.
Which sells V-Power. I'm pretty sure it's not 99 though, so you will need some octane boost with you chaps. |

Any autobahns on the alternative routes?

Yes, but when you go south in Aachen that would be the route my brother warned you about because that would be the one with loads of one lane road works. |

All the routes consist only of Autobahns, Tim. It's just the last few kilometers you have to go along country roads.
