2012 SES Nurburgring Trip - OFFICIAL THREAD

Right then folks, the time has come to post the official list for the 2012 SES Ring Trip.

As you may well be aware, we have had to change the dates for this, due to GmbH and their messing about and changing dates for events, including the Nurburgring 24hr and then the Rock AM Ring being on the dates we had originally pencilled in.

The dates we are going for now are Friday 25th May 2012 - Tuesday 29th May 2012. This also gives us 3 solid days of opening time on the Green Hell, this however is due to the fact that there is a German bank holiday that weekend (This is the festival where we see the decorated tree's about 80ft up on a pole each year), so expect it to be busy out there on Saturday and Sunday for sure.

As was the case last year, we will be insisting on a deposit being paid of £50.00. This is non returnable, so think hard before putting your name down as a "maybe". The deposits will need to be paid by last weekend in February (Sunday 26th). If you are on the list and have not paid the deposit by then, your name will be removed. There will be no exceptions to this rule and no late entries taken after this date, due to limited space on this years trip due to the date change. We currently have 15 rooms blocked out for us, there might be a few more as Jackie may get cancellations due to the changing of the 24hr race which.

Please keep your eyes open in the coming weeks for details of how to pay the deposits, it won't be the same as last year as that cost me personally quite a few quid to square everyones deposits up, due to unforeseen PayPal charges. I was happy (ish) to do it then, but won't be this year, sorry and all that.

We will also get the ferry details and a link posted up in the next few days, you will have to go and organise this yourself and then post up to state that your ferry is booked.

Insurance, we all know this is a thorny issue and one that has raised several threads about should I / shouldn't I? All of those who are insured with Moley can get a great deal on both your Track Insurance + European Insurance & breakdown cover with repatriation. Even if you DON'T go for track insurance, DO NOT under any circumstance go without the breakdown and repatriation cover.

Cost wise, I will be contacting Jackie again in early January and confirming the costs again with her. So these will be confirmed in the next week or so. If you base it on last years prices though, you won't be far wrong. Please also remember the fact that Jackie does not take credit cards. I have stated this every year, but still we have people not doing the right thing as far as this is concerned. If you want to, you can pay in advance a couple of weeks before we leave by Bank Transfer. I found this option much easier.

Apologies if I sound like I'm going on, but these things have to be sorted from the start, otherwise it's an endless line of questions and let downs.

Please add your name to this OFFICIAL thread for the SES 2012 Ring Trip. Stating how many people and names (not user names please, full names if possible). What room configuration. Single / Twin / Double etc. Please copy and paste just the list with your added details.

Heres looking forward to another great trip in 2012.

One of two choices really mate, either Pimalai Resort in Koh Lanta Yai or Amari Palm in Koh Samui.

Joel 29-12-2011 02:06 PM

Can someone explain what features come with the standard double??

worzel 29-12-2011 02:10 PM

There is a link to the hotel in this section! On the main page, just click the sponsored by logo and you'll go straight to it :ok:

Steve_PPP 29-12-2011 02:16 PM

Worzel - Thanks for putting me & Claire on the list :)

Joel - the comfort rooms are just recently renovated so a bit nicer in terms of quality. They're no bigger and don't really have any extra features over a standard room.

I can only stay Saturday and Sunday. So I would actually like a comfort twin for the 26th May. If this was possible that would be great. If not, don't worry, I'll try to get a room in the B&B round the corner. I don't want to block a room for somebody else as I only can stay for this one night.

R1: Adam Greensmith && Tom Gray - Twin.. - (If another doesnt come up, theres a place Ive stayed at before I'll look into booking).

Crowman 29-12-2011 05:58 PM

Hi all
Anyone who can't get into Worzels Palace, there are a few options very nearby.

As Steve has said , keep an eye on this thread as Jaquie may have a few drop out now that the 24 Heur has been moved .

5 months away and I'm getting well excited :-)

Nige 29-12-2011 06:13 PM

If you look on Ben Lovejoy's site there are plenty of hotels just make sure you book early.
www.nurburgring.org.uk :scoob:

Anger 29-12-2011 06:39 PM

Adrian's gonna need somewhere

worzel 29-12-2011 07:08 PM

Good old Nige the "evo warrior" getting the banter flying nice and early.

Please rest assured that we will be doing everything we can to get everyone in Niges Palace, Neil and Ray will also be there from the weekend before, as they are going to watch the 24hr race and will stay for our trip too.

If we can't get us all in the same hotel, I'm sure Jackie will help us out, as she has done in the past!

thepieman 29-12-2011 07:18 PM

Date change has ballsed up our coming with you:doubledown:

worzel 29-12-2011 09:19 PM

Agreed about lazadude getting the spot as first reserve, but the comfort double room should go to the next person that was on the list, in this case Tim & Sim!

Adrian, are you bunking with James?

Skullfudge 29-12-2011 09:24 PM

That's a bummer Ron :(

KrissyB can't come now either as it clashes with his girlfriends birthday :(

AJF: The hotel is more suited to the academic kind of people with an understanding of European etiquette mate.

There is a farm 1.1 miles from hotel that rents out "Ein Bauernhof Scheunebarn's"

That may be up your street fella, (more of a homely feel). ?

Crowman 29-12-2011 09:32 PM

Oh fook that's a bummer about Krissy B

If by the time its deposit time Adrian still hasn't a room, i'll be off the list and will book where Craig stays with Adrian :)

worzel 30-12-2011 01:14 AM

Adrian, it will work this way!

If you came in previous years, as you have, you will priority on Jackies hotel, I will make sure of that, we will then get the newbies in at an alternative accommodation as close as possible to us!

Can you please get your name down, it would make things so much easier!

Also, what do you mean you were removed From the list, if someone is deleting your posts we need to know about it, there is no reason this should be happening.

worzel 30-12-2011 01:21 AM

Adrian, what about the triple room with James and his +1?

Unless its a bit of lady garden that he has in tow of course

I will make sure you are nowhere near snoring Norman too

Steve, I'm not sure whether you lot are aware that the Monday is a bank holiday as well. It's Whitsun Sunday and Whitsun Monday. So I'm sure the Monday will be busy, too. Just thought I tell you this. Still hope you guys will get a lot of great laps. http://1.1.1.4/bmi/www.southeastscoo...on_e_smile.gif http://1.1.1.4/bmi/www.southeastscoo...ilies/more.gif

Thanks Kerstin.
This is where we see trees on tops of poles.
Excuse my ignorance, but what's it all about

BIG"E" 30-12-2011 04:41 PM

IIRC.

It was a bank holiday on the 1st year we went to the Ring.

We had better book the steak house now then.

To be honest, Martyn, it looks as if nobody really knows what it's all about. It is a German custom. They are so called May-trees or Whitsun-trees. In some regions they are put up the night before the 1st of May and in others at Whitsun. Most people think they are put up in the hope for a good crop (or harvest - don't know the appropriate word in English) in the following months. Sorry I can't tell you more about it. I searched the internet but didn't get more satisfying answers either. :)

Crowman 30-12-2011 05:23 PM

Thanks Kerstin.
It's one of the things that sticks in my mind from our first trip to the Ring.
Some very fond memories.

It is nice to go out at least one night on our trip though.

IIRC you got some serious loving on the 1st time you went to Sliders,

and found the love of your life in the form of ye old travel puss.:lol:

Crowman 30-12-2011 07:17 PM

Never go anywhere without one now Ian

Crowman 30-12-2011 07:19 PM

Is nice to go out one night agreed, have we ever had evening meal in the place down on the river, can't remember name, where I got pulled for speeding :-)

Steve_PPP 30-12-2011 07:27 PM

Definately need to go out one night at least, the food in the hotel is good but its nice to get some variety.

I thought the Argentinian fillet on the hot stone jobbie we had at the steak house was top notch personally, and quite fancy going there again.

I enjoyed it as well, not the best steak but definitely not the worse, was also entertaining watching Big E trying to explain to the waitress he didn't want cucumber lol

:nod::agreed:

worzel 30-12-2011 08:19 PM

Agreed too, I thought the grub there was pretty good to be honest, but we could give somewhere else a try!

We can do some searches and go with the popular choice :ok:

No on the 2nd year we did go down to Cochem, as I remember the waiting staff didn't speak our lingo.

It would nice to eat in one of the riverside hostelries, but I would imagine it might be pricey though.

Crowman 30-12-2011 08:49 PM

That's it Cochem. Stunning place .
Love it, 5 months yet and we are discussing where to eat out .

My plans go something like this.
Feb- exhaust fitting and Map
March - pay for acomodation
April- pay for breakdown and track insurance
May- final prep, octane booster, oil etc

:-) :-) :-)

worzel 30-12-2011 08:59 PM

We went to the restaurant in Adenauer first year, where we met the guy who was a member on here (mark) that was quite nice, not too expensive either, then all the lads went on the piss to sliders and the like!

Crowman 30-12-2011 09:07 PM

Sliders, don't know that place :-)

Skullfudge 31-12-2011 02:20 AM

I loved Cock'em too. A meal in a reverside restaurant would be cool.

Steve, I'll show you that photogenic place near the hotel. Ran out of time last year :)

Scott.T 31-12-2011 06:39 PM

Thread cleaned up and banter moved to : http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ad.php?t=11052

It was good in there.

He moved back over here I think and drifted away from scoobies IIRC.

Cheer's Martyn, I'm just about to ping an email to RobEvo5's Leman gang as they are keen to come along, so better get the dates right ;)

Crowman 06-01-2012 10:21 PM

Don't quote me on it though mate, just what I think Mr Gummidge was planning.

How is it that every year I always have stuff to get sorted on the scoob.
This year diferent scoob and needs clutch, plus having exhaust and remap.

One year I do hope I can just wash and go :-)
