This is my first scooby and im not very clued up on them. It seems fine to me, boosts up fine no strange noises (i think). Im sure if i went to a meet one of u guys could tell me if it sounds ok though!
My question is, should i take it to a subaru specialist to have a good look at it, diagnostic tests and test for engine knocking, etc. Should i just wait for the MOT in October? How much would this normally cost and is it an all day job? Ta |

Ok cheers, does a power run basically tell you if the car is running smoothly with no knocking?

In fairness, if you go regularly, Charlie does more often than not reduce it a bit for you.
Because you had 90% of the map set up in Staplehurst, it was always going to seem expensive. Just because it was virtually there. |

So is a run on the rollers the best and cheapest way to determine how well an engine is running?
Also, if an motor isnt running very well will it tell you what needs to be done, fixed or changed in order for the engine to run smoothly again? Cheers |

In all honesty, you are better off taking it to a meet and letting the guys there have a look and a listen.
From there, once everyone has convinced you that you needs loads of shiny things for your scooby, you spend loads of hard earned on all manner of things, then you call Simon (JGM) for a remap, done on the rollers and it happy days all round. Thats how I see it ![]() |

Hardly the cheapest
I ran my uk for 3 years with out a problem from just doing a diagnostic one a month to make sure the ecu wasnt showing any fault codes.... cant get much cheaper than that Is your car standard or has it been modded... if modded past a certain level i would get it on the rollers

The rollers will show if the fueling is right and if theres any knock/det
You have connectors under the dash that can be connected to show if theres any ecu fault codes coming up Simons (Jollygreenmonster) website http://www.jollygreenmonster.com/error_codes.asp.htm

If the ECU check came up clear, there are no rattles when you start, no rattles when you drive and the oil looks like oil and not mayonaise, then all sounds good.
If it has a boost gauge ,make a note of what it reads at full boost and report back with model year info. I will let you know if it's boosting OK. I can aso check the fuelling to verify the MAF if you bring it along to a meet and let me know beforehand. |
