Default Intercooler Question

Ok so the question is, do I stay top mount or do i go front mount? I'm was thinking of getting an STI TMIC which seem to go for around £150, the thing is having looked on the dreaded FleaBay there are FMIC's for about £200 brand new. The sensible part of me knows they will be pretty rubbish but has anyone here had any experiences with them??

depending on your future plans but,
TMIC are good up tp 400 bhp +
FMIC are good up to 600 bhp +
so as you can imagine a FMIC kit @ £200 isn't going to be the greates quality item. Really you need to decide what output your after and go from there,
Either way i would recomend a remap of your upsizing your intercooler

just my 2 pennies worth

Sorry, i should have explained a little better, going for a remap soon once i have fitted my new toys (full de-cat, pink injectors, Vf35, walbro fuel pump) so i'l need an intercooler to go with that lot, just wondering if the FMIC's are worth the extra £50 or is it a case of only get a FMIC if you can spend £500+ on one?

It's a new age by the way and im hoping for about 330 bhp

Yep i also got Autobahn, All the time your not going for 400plus i would stick with TMIC,But its entirely up to you, i went FMIC as i like the look.My car lost a little bit of its snappinest once FMIC fitted.
The truth is cheap FMIC's are a bugger to fit as the pipe work is poorly made.

Sorry to hijack a potential sale Tim, but mine is coming off this week to make way for my Autobahn 88 FMIC.

So if you need it sooner than a few weeks

I'll be after about £150.00, which is the standard kind of money for one.

If you are interested, I'll get it cleaned up by the weekend I expect

No problem if you don't want it though mate, they sell quite easily.

Thanks for the offer mate, I think I'm going to go with the FMIC. For the extra £50 or £60 I recon it will be worth it

Mine sold really easily but then it does come with undertray and Samco pipework!!

I've gone Hybrid FMIC on mine but you need to be aware of the extra costs e.g. air filter and BOV (or adaptor) - Harvey Smith is your man for the HDi kit - about £400 all in with BOV etc. I'm in the process of painting all the pipework on mine Wrinkle Black to go with the manifold!

One of the main reasons for going FMIC on mine is the fact I'm convinced it was the prolonged high speed run (therefore no I/C cooling) that did for my engine in Germany!! But I blame Big E for that!
