Default Alarms & Trackers

Hey all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but just wanted some opinions please.

I'm basically after advice on what CAT 1 Alarm & Tracker I should look to pop on the Scoob when I finally get one.

I'm looking at getting a Fresh Import Type R from SVA imports & thye come without any security & it's been a long time since I dabbled in the world of aftermarket alarms & the like so just wanted to see what you all recommend.

Ta muchly

Neil

Clifford G5, had mine for nearly 3 years and it has been faultless, but i have to dissagree about the Toad, I had one once and it was nothing but trouble, sometimes took up to 45 minutes to disarm the car so i could get in!! Had it looked at sooo many times and things changed on it just ended up having it taken out.

Alarm wise there are lots to choose from, so the world is your oyster to a certain degree.

With regards tracking, I have always used RAC Trackstar and been really happy with them.

I had a battery problem while away in Cornwall a couple of years back, when I disconnected and reconnected the battery, they thought it was suspect and started the procedure. Luckily they contacted me while out in the car, they knew exactly where I was and where I was heading, so they do work!

mines got an RAC Trackstar too, but never spoken to them since it was activated!

I'm sure you can phone them up and ask them to tell you where your car is? Might have to try it next time i'm in the middle of nowhere. Or in a tunnel where they can't find it

id go for a clifford mate been faultless on all my cars, i can give you the details of the bloke who installed all of mine, plus you can get them cheaper through him too but hes a fully certified clifford installer and works for gap car sercurity, tracker wise the my other half had a rac tracker on the mg, you had to pay for a monthly subscription or a one off payment for the year, but be carefull with the trackers as some only cover a certain area so have look into it first.

I emailed huets about clifford avantguard 5.5 to be fitted to a 99 sti this is what they said.......

Good afternoon Dave, thank you for your enquiry.
Prices as requested although they may vary a bit depending on the spec of the car and what you want us to do. A few questions. Are the windows one touch, do you want the factory boot release left working or disconnected, is there a existing immobiliser or alarm system fitted, is there a turbo timer fitted and has it got remote central locking already?

To supply and fit an Avantguard 5.5 with remote start £600 assuming you either have remote locking already or multi point CDL. The way to test this is use the key in the passenger door. If it locks all the doors or has a switch in the car to lock/unlock all the doors it is multipoint. If not a door motor will need to be installed at £50
Turbo timer £50
Boot Pop £75
Window closure +between £120/200 depending on one touch etc

Due to the complexity of the installation we would only fit this at our workshop and would need the car for 2 days. This is not the sort of job to rush.

2 days to fit it? that seems abit long, i had a 5.5 fitted to my 1st scooby, and that had the full window closure feature fitted and also had to have an extra central locking solonoid fitted to the passenger side. It only took half a day and that was with the guy from clifford talking me through what he was doing and setting it up too.

Had trackstar on one car.
You had to touch a card on the dash to turn it off.
Month before renewal I stopped diactivating it, and they never rung!
Waste of time
