With regard to Payment of the hotel room.

It is possible to pay for your room via bank transfer before you leave the UK.

I have details of an account for this purpose, you can pay in sterling !

This eliminates carrying a lot of euros around and worrying about getting cash whilst in Germany.

Personally I will pay for my room via the bank transfer method, then at the time of checkout you will only have to pay for the meals and drinks consumed.

Those wishing to pay via bank transfer please PM. me for the account details..

I will also be requiring a non refundable deposit of £50 per room to be paid by 17/3/2017

payments@southeastscoobies.co.uk

Travel:

Travelling by Eurotunnel as per previous years, times of train to book are below, we book these individually and is your responsibility. Tesco clubcard points have been popular in previous years to get cheaper tickets.

When you book, we recommend selecting "High car over 1.85m", as this should get you on the low deck only carriages and is easier for lower cars/splitters, we try to travel all together on the train.

Simon.

Certainly Sir, good to have you on the trip again. Need something quicker than the Merc so you don't push me up the hill on the way back to the hotel this year!

Single room for me please.

Might I make a suggestion for the route over, that you all travel over via Luxembourg, not only to make it easier for me to meet up on the way with everyone, but so you can all benefit from a nice cheap top up of fuel before entering Germany, and for the way back?

Not sure if there's a suitable route via Luxembourg... how much cheaper is the vpower then? We fill up in Ashford and then again at our normal stop just east of Liege on the E42. By that point, most of us are down to about a quarter of a tank.

Our normal route is:
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ca...3!2d50.1868914

We normally try and get down to the Ring as quickly as possible as we need to unload at the hotel and head down to the track for the evening session for a lap or two. Its normally the quietest point of the weekend on the Friday afternoon

Basically I take the route that goes from Calais/Dunkirk to Lille then across. It's normally 3.5 to 4hrs to Luxembourg, though the Brussels route can be quicker the chances are slim with that horrible ring road and when it gets bad it gets really bad. I did it in 3hrs10min once, but that was pure luck that there were no police about.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ca...50.1868914!3e0

I also fill up at the same place in Ashford, and get home with just over a quarter of a tank, both my STI and my old WRX. There's actually a station on the way to Lille that I sometimes use if I have managed to save enough fuel in the UK but I rarely risk it just to save a few pennies.

As for fuel costs in Luxemborg, 98 of any flavour is currently €1.24/ltr (and that's fixed at all stations in the country until the next price change, no messing about getting the best deal) and yesterday afternoon in France I paid €1.63 - I always look here to get a good idea of the price difference, and to smirk

Im in for this put me and lucy down for a comfort room.

First things first though we both need to renew our passports. That's this weekends job.
Then as soon as that is done will sort out the payments. Someone will have to talk me through my first ring experience

What car is coming this year Si??

I believe we're going in something different from the Scoob this year, she's gone into retirement.

Bring it on!

The new motor is a better Ring car than the scoob for sure. Just take it easy through Schwedenkreuz

Another vote for Marriotts and if they do reject them they'll do them again for free.

Not sure yet, either RB5, Clio or Cooper S, depending on next few months car swap about.

We did consider other options, but, as the options for dates to go were rather changing this year and the fact that Rob and I are organising this for the first time, we managed to secure some flexible reservations with Jackie. Not to mention my free time is rather limited at the moment compared to normal.

We did very much consider Eddies and it was a close call, I think next year, if I am organising again, I certainly will look at other options if those within the club wish pursue that path.

Just to echo what Simon said really... Claire and I also both really liked Eddy's - the hotel isn't as nice as Jackies imo but the location is awesome and that's a big plus. The problem is really that to make a booking with Eddy for a large group, we need to commit to an exact amount of rooms now, and pay deposits now to stand a chance of getting in. If we need to change the amount of rooms up/down closer to the time, its difficult as he's normally booked up. We just don't know how many people will come yet and Jackie is much for flexible for us as we've been going for years.... if we had a 100% attendance list sorted by Xmas and no drop-outs it would be easy, but that's nearly impossible for most people.

Come along, the M3 will be awesome out there

Keep it simple - hard enough to organise these things - and its appreciated in your efforts for doing so.

Sorry my updates and replies have been a little slow lately, busy at work and when at home I have been configuring new Cisco internet/network stuff, so have been without connection.

Any how, hopefully after this weekend I should be a bit more free to check PM's and this thread.

Heard about this but it was a while ago and there weren't too many details at the time, will have a look now and see what the latest is. Want to be able to load my existing laps on there from last year's card.

AA covered my car and they use ADAC for recovery in Germany .

Who do people use for insurance on the ring?
I doubt my company will cover me for this. Need to check they even cover for Europe.

Got a track day quote for £277 but not sure if it counts as a track day or open day when we are going?

Youre better of going with keith michaels and speak to gary moulson as they cover for europe and btw they do track cover too .

Just to confirm, your trackday quote will not cover Touristenfahrten which is the open days we use.

Speak to Gary Moulson but insurance at the Ring is a grey area at best, always has been. Just don't bin it

It's a very grey area, as Steve says Touristenfahrten is not a track day, no Marshalls, no emergency services dotted around the track and no control over the numbers and skill of people on the track, it is effectively a public toll road but you'll notice every UK insurance policy has a clause about not covering the car on the Nurburgring.

Morning guys/girls

On the original post about the trip there was a timetable and a route we were taking but that is no longer there.
Does anyone have a copy of that? or can anyone just repost it?

Also as modern baking scares the life out of me. I have paid the £50 deposit for the room ( I think that was what it was for ). Do I need to pay the rest to someone via paypal? Or do I pay the rest for the room in cash upon arrival? I don't have the option for bank transfers. Well unless I go into the branch then its just a pain.

I have sorted breakdown cover and insurance is there anything else I need to do?

Sorry for all the questions but being a ring newbie I don't want to get to the last minute and have not done something.
Thanks

Hi Neil, You pay Jackie in cash at the end of your stay. You will have a tab for any drinks you have and meals you eat and settle up with Jackie on the morning you leave.

You can also forward funds to Jackie eg room costs before you go. Then you only have to think about fuel, laps, food and drinks etc once you are there.

Just remember Jackie only accepts cash once you are there unlike the rest of the world

Ask as many questions as you wish you might find this helpful taken from last years thread :

06.20 Meet @ the Shell service station Junction 11 M20 (CT21 4GH)

06.40 Leave for Euro tunnel terminal. (2 minutes down the road)

06.45 Check in

07.50 Depart UK.

We will be stopping at the Shell garage/services @ Barchon Sud E40/E42 for breakfast and then convoy/play down to the Hotel

http://www.hotel-wilhelmshoehe.de/

Sat Nav co ordinates are:

Latitude: 50.19123 | Longitude: 7.01688
or
N 50 11' 28.428" E 7 1' 0.768"

Those who have been before will probably have most of this stuff already. For those who have not been before, the below list is invaluable. Most of the items in the "For The Car" section are actually law in Europe, so I would advise that you make sure that you do / have these things arranged.

I'm sure that most of you who have been before will have this stuff, but it's well worth double checking, just in case. Anything that you haven't got can be purchased at places like Halfords.
BLUE are the ones that are Law in Europe! Please remember that the breathalysers are a requirement in France .
But apparently there are no penalties for not having one

The Check List FOR THE CAR

1: Spare Bulb Kit
2: Warning Triangle
3: Hi Visibility Vests (1 for each person in car)
4: Headlight Beam Deflectors (see link below)
5: Fire Extinguisher
6: First Aid Kit

7: Octane Booster (personal choice)
8: Oil (optional but advised)
9: GB Sticker (if you dont have GB on your number plate)
10:Spare Key
11: Sat Nav (with European Data)
12: Crash Helmet (not compulsory)
13: European Insurance & Breakdown Cover (make sure it covers repatriation, just in case)
14: Track insurance (those insured with Keith Micheals, call Moley)
15: Driving License, insurance cert. V5 form and MOT certificate to be carried at all times !
16: Locking wheel nut tool
17: Tyre pressure gauge
18: Breathalyser kit

PERSONAL ITEMS
1: PASSPORT !!
2: Euro Tunnel confirmation e-mail with booking reference and dont forget to register you API http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/advance...r-information/
3: E 111 (optional additional health insurance)
4: Euro's and debit / credit cards (inform bank that you are away for safety)
5: Mobile Phone & Charger
6: Headache Tablets (trust me)
7: European Plug Adaptor
8: Walkie talkies ? (I will be bring the same 3 or more if I can acquire some)
9: Big bag of cash. Euros.

We will be taking the route below.

Hi I ain't, this seems to have slipped of our radar. Currently in Patagonia, but all being well should be back home on 15th March. Could you just update me on the room situation.
Thanks,Mate.

Eurotunnel all paid for, I also need some paint work sorting, but having done around August.
I'm sure I'll collect some more stone chips while in Germany.

well I was hoping I could twist Jo to get a Focus RS so we could take that to the Ring, I even offered to sell a Scoob! but hence I failed, maybe should have tried harder, as I can normally win her round.

Anyway it's French, front wheel drive, well equipped...............................

and boring.

A new 2017 Peugeot 3008 GT Line, with most of the options available, though I did have to untick the glass panoramic sunroof and full leather seats, other wise all my Scoob money would have gone!

Needless to say, I still need to sort a Ring car out.
