I'm guessing it shouldn't look like this!!!
![]() ![]() Basically looks like it's perished and split into 3 though its still tight and secure. Won't be using it until Brent can look at it. ![]()

It shouldn't. But it's not the cambelt.
Just the alternator and power steering. Easy enough to change and only a couple of spanners required. Maybe one more than your used too ![]() I'm heading into brighton so could swing by and point at stuff if it helps. U got my number ? |

Cool, well that's better than a cam belt lol. If you are going for the vw they aren't there as I found out earlier they left this morning and it's all landys..
Not got you number Scott but I'll need to get a new belt tomorrow anyway mate so don't worry. Cheers for the offer though. Still best not to use it until it's done?

Mine used to slip a bit and I wasn't advised not to use the car.
Not sure if that's the same advice if there's a risk of it snapping. I can't see it doing much harm though. You.might want to check the pulleys, etc. as it might be those that have caused it to get a bit chewed up. I know someone who was treating these belts as service items at one stage!! Cool. Cheers guys. I'm not the most technical y minded person when it comes to these things so all advice is appreciated.
Two spanners is definitely too many Scott!! Cheers si.. I'll make some calls tomorrow and get one.

Just go to your local motor factors they will have them on the shelf.
If you can take the old one just to double check length. |

Cool, will do. They look easy to change too (good old you tube) I think even I can manage that.

I changed mine over recently as it started to leave debris all over the engine bay along with the typical squeak that can develop. Really simple job, just make sure it is tight enough but not over tight so it doesn't upset the alternator. I got my replacement belt from eBay, it does a simple job so nothing fancy is needed

It does also explain the 'supercharger' belt whine it had recently which was why I started prodding about.

Good man.
I'm similar to you in this regard, so I am always particularly pleased with myself when I take on a mechanical task and succeed! |
