Default For those of you that wish you had gone to japfest

Left home at 7am got to 5 miles from the circuit and it has taken us two half hours to do about 2 miles and they still reckon about another 2 hrs to do the rest,so enjoy the sun at home

Apparently the Police ended up closing the gate and turned people away eventually

Got up at 05.00 , picked my boys up at 06.15 , filled up with VPower in east grinstead and set off up the motorway , empty roads steady 80mph .
At 08.45 and 3.4 miles from circuit we stopped , remember a 5 yr old and a 11 going on 15 in the car . 2 hours later had done .6 of a mile , patience being severely tested by my very bored sons .
The youngest found that his DS stick makes lines on my door panel , wow , how angry was I .
So, the day was bad to say the least .
Anyhow , 1 & 3/4 hours later we made it , thirsty , hot and pissed off .

Things then took a big turn for the better , approached the P1Woc stand, was met by A host of members that stopped the crowds and saw me back into my very own spot, bang in the centre .
Had no sooner got out the car and was asked would I like a nice cuppa .

Cleaned flys off car, had cuppa, took boys for walk around all the car clubs and trade stands, collected oils from Opie, chatted to lots of people , some I had met before , some new faces, then had a nice drive back with the Fudge

Forgetting the terrible queues I had a great day.

Huge thanks to the P1Woc for being spot on .

Next year SES should def go , but either stay local like the P1guys did , or get up mega early .

Am rehydrating now as no fluid and sun burnt

Hi Simon
Mike was having fun against an RX7 that was a serious bit of kit, sequential box, slicks, carbon everything , was fun to watch mikes spitting flames up the straights .

Funny you should say about the night before , we were all saying they really need to make it a 2 day event , as it's far too many people to get through the gates in one morning .

It's actually well organized, but it's like shutting all but two kiosks at the dart ford tunnel during rush hour .

I spoke to a guy who had a passenger ride in one of the civic touring cars , said it was unbelievable the grip and g's through the corners

Apart from the horrific queues, it sounds like a top day!

Martyn was texting during the day and I know he was really made up with the way the P1WOC looked after him.

I was looking at the Japfest facebook page last night, every post by the organisers has just been met with a torrent of abuse from people who waited hours in the queues or didn't get in at all.

Wasn't there so don't know all the details, but did they allow public to buy tickets on the gate at the same time as opening the gates to pre-purchased ticket holders? I know its difficult to manage crowds but if they are over-selling tickets on the gate as well as in advance, they should advertise the opening times so that ticket holders can get into the site before they open up to the public.

My Cars GPS says got onto the SS stand and parked up at 09:54, Granted spent a while waiting, but was alright. Bacon butty's being served to the Queue.

Apparently the queue reached back to the M4 roundabout at peak.

You can only put the queues down to no experience.

If you know the crack about car events you make sure you arrive early.

I must admit the staff on the gates had no idea AT ALL.

Need dedicated staff that know the game.

Aah I see must be my fault with no experience so if we all turned up a few hours earlier there would have been no queue?????

LOL ... I understand what you are saying but if a large show opens to the public at 9.00 am is it wise to arrive around 9.00 am?

As I mentioned much of the blame was the staff, together with gate locations.

We arrived at 7.30 and were sitting around for 10 minutes with NO traffic in front of us ?
The staff were just chatting away to each other without a care in the world about what they were meant to be doing.

Was expecting a queue this year (as we have in the past), but we were in it longer than expected.

I was so tempted to suggest heading down there a bit later Saturday morning: bloody glad I didn't cave in and go later now or we'd have spent the day in a traffic jam!

Plus you knew we had The Gimp in tow, so we were bound to be even later!

Glad I stayed locally though: was nice to roll out of there then go for a cold beer.

I don't know, but maybe we were just lucky or something...
Left Horsham 6.00am, arrived just south of Tiddlewink about 8.15 and I think we were in and parked by 9.15...

Went with Surrey Scoobies (top bunch...) and I was the first car there after leaving much later than them! Thought thatI might be 'nobby no mates' for a bit till they all turned up in convoy half an hour later...

But as said, once you're in you forget the queues and soak up the atmosphere.

Anyway, great day out in the end but seems to be busier every year...

J.

I'm afraid I "bought Japfest into disrepute". A bunch of us SS types were all stuck in the queue together. We got to Tiddlywink and some woman in an Audi 4x4, with her hand covering the side of her face to avoid having to make side mirror eye contact with me, just barged out of a side road inbetween myself and Lazadude. No signal, no gesture of what she was going to do, just plain acted like I wasn't there. I revved a bit in angry response and the fat bloke making a killing selling bacon butties from the pub car park yelled "oi! Some people want to get Japfest banned you know. Not us though". No I can see why you don't, you're making a killing off hocking overpriced food to people stuck in a queue.

It was the fact that what the Audi woman had done was twice as offensive as me giving my car a rev, but the guy just blamed me for being anti social. Twat. I hope he gets sued for giving a bunch of people food poisoning.

Not that me sitting there on Launch Control banging away was anti social.

I got away as it because I bought 2 baps

Proves Sean's point that the bloke was a twat then doesn't it?!

Also Adam, of course it isn't anti-social... only a rozzer could take a differing view...
