So this is the route my brother is recommending (it'll take you about 10 minutes more than the route you printed) :

Continue onto Bd Sainte-Barbe
0.8
Turn right onto Av. du Stade
Go through 1 roundabout

Keep left at the fork, follow signs for A16/E40/Ostende/Bruges/Bray-Dunes/Furnes/Veurne/Téteghem and merge onto A16/E40
Entering Belgium
9.9
Continue onto E40
92.5
Take exit 11-17-Groot-Bijgaarden for E40/E19 toward E411/Namen/Luik/Antwerpen/Luchthaven Zaventem

270.1
Keep left at the fork and merge onto B262
272.4
Merge onto A48 via the ramp to Trier
288.7
Take exit 2-Ulmen toward B259
288.9
Turn left onto B257
289.2
Continue onto B259
291.2
Turn right onto L102
291.7
Turn left onto Kirchstraße
291.7
Turn left onto Brunnenstraße
291.8
Take the 1st right onto Talstraße
Destination will be on the right
291.8
Arrive at Auderath, Germany

And in case you lot want to make a break, my brother said it's best to do it after you have passed Brussel. Try to get past Brussel by noon, otherwise that bit will be manic. Well, the whole route could be manic anyway because that Friday when you come over is when everyone travels home for a long weekend.

Thank you Kerstin,

The first year we did the ring trip it was also on a German bank holiday.

We then followed my sat nav and it wasn't too bad.

I will get it programmed in to my sat nav.

On the journey we normally stop at a big Shell service station on the E40 that has a bridge over the motorway. (its about an 1.5 hours from Dunkirk )

Love your passion, Ian. Can't wait myself either.

Do you guys know when you're having breakfast on the Saturday morning (just about)? I'm planning to be there when you have finished. But as it is at least a five-hour trip for me I need to know when I have to fall out of my bed that morning.

I think I'll leave here at about 3 am, Martyn, depending on me getting my brother out of his bed by then as he wants to come along. But I'll try my best. Yup, a tea or coffee would be certainly nice.

What route do you normally take down there? I have seen some directions on a prior post from Ian and Kerstin. I was talking to one of my Belgian colleagues and he advised that due to the bank holiday weekend to avoid the motorway (E19/ E40) around Brussels at all costs. He recommended the following which Google Maps says is 4hr 11m/ 419km:

Just wondered what route was considered the best from those that have done it before?

Nice one Greg

We have always gone the way the Sat Nav has led us, which is via Brussels. That was poo last year and we have heard from Kerstin that it's bad this year, with lots of single lane roadworks.

Kerstin has posted a route, I'm fairly sure it's similar or the same as this one.

Don't worry about shrinking the map mate, much better like that

As Steve said, we have always gone the same route, which is using the ring road around Brussels, and it has been a pain a couple of times.

Im going down next week, so will take the Route you have put up Greig and see how it goes.

The route Greg posted is definitely better than the one via Brussel. Brussel would be sort of ok if you passed it before noon. But Antwerpen is the better option. And when you enter Germany Greg's route also avoids the huge number of one lane road works. My brother said there should be only two road works (but with two lane traffic). So I think Greg's is the best route you can take.

I believe I am correct in saying that is the route Jimmy took when we meet him

just after he had built Niges Evo in 2010.

But going that way does it reduce the distance travelled on the derestricted roads, it might even increase it with a bit of luck?

I am not a lover of the Belgium police.

Mind you he only slowed me down to have a better look at the very rare special coloured limited edition ..

Taking cover.........

We do this every year

It'll be different when you look tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be fine

I try to only take notice when we get to the 5 day forecast before we go. They are usually a bit more accurate

Yes mate, still got them on.

Surprisingly grippy too.

It still surprises me the lap me and Nige did in the wet, mine felt a lot more sure footed than his looked!

I think James has said the same kind of thing about them, maybe its the set up?

I think the route Greg has posted is the usual SatNav route to Adaneu.
Going to worzels palace, the SatNav normally takes the motorway further south then loops back.

It's amazing when you think how close they are together.

We need to do a search for this route with regards to fuel

Just double checking, Gregs route turns left at Gent, thus missing out Brussels.

But Scott is right, doing Auderath for a map and Adenau give you 2 completely different routes from Verviers onwards.

Using the Shell route planner, there is a shell service station on the E313 just between Bocholtz & Aachen.

Which sells V-Power. I'm pretty sure it's not 99 though, so you will need some octane boost with you chaps.

Yes, but when you go south in Aachen that would be the route my brother warned you about because that would be the one with loads of one lane road works.

All the routes consist only of Autobahns, Tim. It's just the last few kilometers you have to go along country roads.
