Default Boost controller

Hi, I'm in the process of ordering the prosport gauge kit from scoobyworld and they are being fitted on the 19th of feb.

I Was talking to my mechanic and he owns a escort rs , he's fitted a manual boost controller and said it saves him a lot of fuel when he's just Town driving and then he can just turn it back up when he wants to play

Iv had a look and found some on ebay ect but he has told me to find out if the wastegate/actuator allows for one to be fitted, any ideas? Thanks

Oh it's a 2002 bug eye wrx .

if hes adjusting it in car it sounds more like a bleed valve and i wouldnt personally use one...........if you must use a mechanical one get a "manual boost controller" that is basically a one-way valve (£40 from us)

however to do it porperly then simply save a little more and get a Gizzmo boostcontroller which we find more controllable (and cheaper) than the AVCR

The only manual boost controller you should running is called a dawes devices, basicially these have a ball bearing inside them and the work by the tighter you wind them in the more the boost will increase, these imo are faultless, do not get a bleed valve these work by the more you wind them out the more boost you get, they are prone to sticking and often blow things up. as tone has said an electronic boost controller is best but they are not always that easy to use, AVCR is the best imo, with regards to downing the boost to save fuel it is utter rubbish, you are not going to hit full boost round town long enough to notice the difference in fuel.

sorry not everything we supply/do is listed on our site (it would take me a lifetime to list everything LOL)

Brads explanation while correct is fairly simplistic.............our "manual boost controller" is the same basic operation as a 'Dawes device' however just like everyone calling vaccum cleaners a "hoover" its a specific companies offering rather than the generic device available which is very basically a one-way valve with a pre-loaded spring that opens at the pressure its set to and is a totally closed system.......
a Bleed valve works differently in that you 'bleed' air off the system to fool the actuator into staying shut longer this invariably involves over-boosting the turbo to achieve what your after so its for this reason that it can cause damage

simply call the office to order if required 0191-4103770

As Brad said boostroller will make naff all difference to fuel consumption and certainly won't make it better. Your right foot is the best controller for petrol consumption

If you are considering a Dawes 'type' device. Then my only recommendation is get yourself a boost gauge fitted at the same time if you don't already have one to make sure your not over boosting or spiking boost badly.

They are crude but cheap and affective bits of kit, but they come with great responsibility IMO.

They can cause fuel cut, detonation, premature turbo/engine failure. etc. So should only be used if your a little mechanically sympathetic and savy, and accept the possible dangers.

You should be fine, but you Just need to keep an ear out for detonation and ideally borrow some det cans if you can.

I'm currently running one on my UK classic, along with turbo, intercooler and exhaust mods on what I think is still a stock ECU/map. Pulls like a train and no det.!
