HI THERE . new here i have a v2 555 wagon recently purchased, have a prob its not pulling past 5500 rpm it will in 1st gear but not in any others ??? it has a hks bv and a induction kit in my experiance both unsettle the classics, it has a SC ecu with a esl daughterboard, still running the slanty rubbish ic, and fully de catted anyone got any ideas ??? holds a steady 0.9 bar until it hits 5500 rpm then just backfires really loud if on boost .. Dont know much about history nor does the previous owner , has a fresh forged rebuild with recipts for £5100 has had tons of money spent on it by the looks of it.
shall i just use a standard ecu z4 ect until i know whats going on or anyone got an idea whats causing the problem so annoying taking it easy now lol thanks in advance nathan |

Coil Packs, extra boost is blowing the spark out.
Try taking plugs out and narrowing gap to 0.65mm Also remove the rubber cap from the end of the coil packs and check for cracks. Sometime you can get away with plenty of layers of insualtion tape, then re-fit the rubber cap. But most times you need new coil packs. It doesn't sound like it's achieving full boost either. The SC ECU should run 0.85bar to the redline (would probably read 0.9bar on a gauge). The SC ECU is basically a re-badged Z4 ECU from the WRX Saloon. The ESL daughter board is likley to be mapped to 1.1/1.2bar. So either the J1 Link resistor on the ECU board is not cut, so it runs the standard map instead of the ESL one. Or Your actuator is a bit loose Or You have a boost leak. |

Echo above - And go straight for the coil packs first off.! - Personally experienced exactly the same on similar set up. Its so predictable at first you think it must be more than just electrical and the coil packs, but it was.!

Hey guys thanks for the reply, just stripped ecu down the j1 resistor has been completely removed . why is car only boosting 0.9???? is car in limp mode ?? i have found the induction kit clamps a prob 1 loose and the other missing fitted with streatchy rubber, could unmetered air cause this prob??? would an ecu reset help??? i will pull codes later the check light did come on when the probs at 5500rpm happen but goes straight out , im guessing maf ok as light going out ??? is it ok to run induction kit and a hks ssqv ?? i have had probs with both messing cars up previously .
Im looking to go visit JGM and get some management just need a quick fix so i can use the thing safetly for now , i will investigate coils , i know common prob have had this before and plug gaps Thanks again Nathan |

Limp mode is around 0.6bar, so it isn't in limp. Clean out all the hoses to and from the boost control solenoid. Take special notice of the bottom hose as this has a brass restrictor in it. If this is partially blocked it will reduce boost. You can run with this hose removed to see if makes difference. But if everything is ok elsewhere it is likely to over boost with this hose off.
Some induction kits have poor filtration and cause the maf to get contaminated, so worth cleaning maf with carb cleaner and cotton. Jgm will only be able to map the version 2 ESL board. These are normally £300 plus mapping fee. |

Thanks to add i did a diagnostic check and there are no faults stored ??? maybe this function not working as daughterboard installed ??? Gonna just run a z4 put standard airbox back in and standard dv, clean boost control solinoide , Btw the person i bought the car off did change this maybe it has the wrong restrictor pill in now for the daughterboard set up ???? sorry for questions, its just hard when the tuning history is unknown . Just gonna get it running smooth and get management . Thanks again

Diag should work with ESL board (i used to be a dealer for them). No need to mess with restrictor with esl either. The usual problem is that the hose with restrictor is missing causing overboost. On the solenoid top conn goes to turbo, middle actuator, bottom with restrictor to air intake.

Well what a day, i now have overheating temp up n down issues and coolant dripping from behind the sump , my buddys saying headgasket, im thinking a pipe split somewhere defo losing a lot of coolant, no smoke from exhaust , no sweet smell, temp gauge stabilised driving back to the house about 20 miles away was dark and raining so cant really see a lot but defo dripping coolant around the sump area its running off the metal brace underneath and onto the floor. anyone had any experiance of this ??
To update on power cutting out prob im fitting the standard airbox back in , standard dv. and a stock sti ecu and trying it then the car is still showing no cel codes ???? My friend thinks he heard detonation when he drove it earlier today thinks the detonation could have popped the headgasket, thinks the cars not calibrated for the compression its running as the engine is a replacement and may be using differant headgaskets to the original 1 the ecu was set up for ????????????????? |

Sounds to me as if you should try to see who ever you bought it from.
