Heard on the news today a story on car tax, i know theres nothing we can do about it, it just annoyed me really that you pay all that money for it and less than 10% actually goes on the road. To add insult to injury
![]() Makes you wonder where does all the money go that comes from all the cars like petrol, road tax, mot, fines, show room tax, etc etc etc. Also its only gonna get worse, most councils are having their funding cut for road repairs, car tax is gonna go up and petrol is bound to go up to. I sound like a whining kid but it just winds me up abit espically when everyone on here spends ££££'s on their cars plus even more having to repair them from damage caused buy roads that we're made to pay for in the first place. Makes me wonder about getting a bike and becoming a cyclist where everything is free. Sorry moan over

You know my thoughts on this Andy
I have 4 vehicles, all taxed & mot'd. The 2 vans have had lower suspension arms since winter. The Kompressor goes into Mercedes tomorrow for 2 new front ball joints. The 190e had a lower suspension arm a couple of months ago, due to a waste of time council, it is having it repaced very soon, I'm paying over £800 a year on road tax, about time i started getting something from it Rant NOT over!!! |

Agreed Lee, Rant NOT over at all.
The whole thing sucks and we as a country just seem to sit back and take it on the chin. The roads in Europe make ours look like ****ing farm tracks, yet we pay through the nose for everything, Road Tax / Insurance (unless you are with Moley of course ![]() And all we get is utter **** ![]() It's not even a party political thing, as all parties seem to shy away from it, the scumbags. Carry on the rant someone ![]() |

Went to Germany earlier in the year. We went through England, France, Belgium, Holland & Germany, Only England did we hit any pot holes.
Kent wasn't too bad, but Surrey was awful. There are a few roads around reigate (Big money roads) not even touched since the snow. Raglan Road to name one. What would happen if everyone stopped buying road tax until the roads are fixed? |

The French for instance would, as one, refuse to accept it. And they would, as one, do something about it. We on the other hand, as a country just bend over and let the people in power slip it right up us from behind. |

Well you have said it all nothing i can add realy.Andy i have been using my bike for about 10weeks now but a lot while the car has been off the road and it's not as cheap as people think. If you ride on the road a lot the pot hole problem is realy bad had to have my wheels trued twice due to hitting big ones and i have realy good wheels for going off road!!!!!! Plus cycle lanes are pointless round here with most used by the dog walkers for the dogs to **** on

The taxes keep rising because we all keep happily paying.
10% actually spent on roads is terrible. Not really the correct comment in this thread fellas but when you look at many countries on earth, 28 current wars, no food, no water, military leadership etc we have everything that millions would die for. Swap live with them for 12 months we would soon be back here I bet ![]() |

May have mentioned this before but not only are the roads far better in France we don't pay any car tax.Plus your right, the French would never put up with roads in the state our's are.

But personally your other comments towards the police are in poor taste whether joking or not, bearing in mind we have members on this forum that are members of the police force and alot of members families have police connections. This is just my point of view. ![]()

heres a news article i stumbled on. its on about "pay as you go roads" but it mentions how much of the tax we pay on road tax n fuel tax actualy goes to maintaining our roads:-
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/07...r_road_report/ For those to lazy to read heres an extract:- "Glaister sets out today's situation, in which the road system is a huge money maker for the Treasury. Road users pay £46bn each year in fuel duty and road tax, of which no more than a quarter or a third at most is spent on roads. The rest is used to fund the loss-making parts of government: proportionally, most goes on welfare and health." |

So many that you're still missing one
![]() £46,000,000,000. And if you assume theres probably 40 million drivers in the UK? (60m population, minus children/elderly who don't drive) = over £1100 each per year. Assume average of £200/yr car tax = over £900 per year in fuel duty. Great to know our money is being well spent ![]() |

When me and the other half went to wales, as soon as you entered all the roads were smooth, couldnt find 1 pothole, even in the towns. But as soon as we got back into england it was like driving on cobbles and it got worse the closer you got to surrey. It does make you wonder where the rest of the money is going though?

It's going to Iraq, Afganistan, the EU, paying for perfectly fit healthy people to stay at home when they dont want to work and to pay for people to come over to our country and bleed it dry
