Default Any teachers out there!?

I've just been offered a GTP place at Cranbrook Grammar School teaching KS3 and KS4+ sciences. I still have to go through the course provider, Canterbury Christchurch University, interview though which is at the end of May.

Got to do an 8 minute lesson starter for a mixed ability KS3 class, anyone able to give any tips? Don't really know what I'm doing lol. Any help greately appreciated. Oh and what are the hot topics in teaching at the moment?

Cheers,

Dave

Yeah good point Duke.

I have started some young guys with intent to training them. Got rid of the lot.
Calling the average 18 - 21 year old guy useless would be polite when it come down to getting stuck in.

Other than two guys (both 28) that have done nothing else since leaving School, I won't employ anyone under 30.
Don't get me wrong they are not all like it, but around 2% are cut out for our game.
I have given 9 young guys a chance to earn up to 1K a week and got rid of all 9.
Lack of commitment, no respect for team members, constantly on mobile phones, bad time keepers, always want to get home early, can't remember anything, up until silly hours on computers, useless with a capital F.

I'm only 22, hope I don't fall in to that category! Sounds like you've had a pretty poor show from my generation. I blame the parents

Cheers for tip C.J. Will pm bluebugeye on my return from London outings!

lmao @ 999. Really quiet at the moment squire. Construction is dead in general.

Gtiteen: wasn't aiming at you .

Yep, parents accompanied by silly laws are to blame and to a certain degree I think our educational system is. I mention this as it would be interesting to hear the views of a teacher (like yourself), that is qualified to teach at grammar levels.

One spends 10 yrs trying to learn French. Ten years later your entire French vocabulary consists of apple, airplane, I love you, hello & goodbye then when you eventually get to France years later they all speak English ??

The same children/adults all leave School not knowing a thing about credit cards, banking, insurances, the taxes you will pay and probably the most important issue, learning what the word "respect" means.
Issues that would prove beneficial when leaving School and jumping into the real world, don't you think sir?
