Spoke with my local dealership when I saw this message and they knew nothing about it! They have got back to me now though and are awaiting further information and parts from Subaru and don't know when this will arrive so they will contact me. I've just been advised not to let anyone sit in the front passenger seat until it's been looked at.

I wonder what we JDM owners should do? I can't see Subaru UK wanting to touch us with the proverbial.....

Gatwick Subaru said they can't help me, they only carry out services and nothing else (Help full!).

Spoke with the next nearest, Epsom, and they said they have not received full information or any parts as yet. We will receive a letter from Subaru regarding the recall, in the post, and then need to contact our dealership.

In the mean time avoid the front seat being used but this is just a precaution to cover their back sides obviously.

Just avoid having an accident and everything will be fine lol (it has been so far for the life of the car).

I spoke to the same people as Stacey earlier today and I did chuckle that none of the dealers were aware initially and certainly not in a position to assist.

The lady I spoke to, to her credit, went away and found out what was going on and responded very positively. I obviously phoned too early.

Seems IM Group published the website information, but forgot to press send on the e-mail to the dealer network!

Got the same impression when I spoke to Monza round the corner from me who knew absolutely nothing about it. I suspect some of us will be Chauffeuring for a while!

If Gatwick wouldn't help, try Turners Hill. I took my old bug there to get the lower arms tested for a recall and they were only too happy to help.

Turns out my BM one was replaced in September 2013 Under BMW's recall for the same thing.

Bit worrying that Subaru have known about it for a while and only now issue the recall.

Anyone heard anything back from dealers on this yet? My local dealership (Normandy) hasn't had parts or instructions from Subaru UK yet...

This was posted by Gary aka Snowmonkey on Surrey Scoobies this morning. He works for Proven Motors.

The Important parts of the email we got that you need to know at the moment.

The recall notice applies only to Impreza models (including WRX and STI) built between 2004 and 2007. The recall does not affect any other models in the Subaru range.

^^ Imprezas with 4G 5G 6G or 7G in the middle of their chassis numbers ^^

The vehicles affected are equipped with front passenger air bag SPI inflators manufactured by air-bag maker Takata. The recall has received widespread media coverage as Takata supplies a number of Japanese vehicle manufacturers.

There were approximately 10,400 affected vehicles shipped to the UK

Please note, this applies to passenger side airbags only and we therefore advise you avoid seating occupants in the front passenger seat until the work has been carried out.

Subaru UK are currently actively pursuing FHI with regard to the repair process and parts supply and will share this information with you as soon as it becomes available.

It's pretty disgraceful if you ask me. Especially when you consider the recommendation not to use the passenger seat!

After owning many makes of cars over the years and having many trips to dealerships, I have found Excluding Bell & Colvill, who were excellent (probably as they are multi franchise) all others have been poop in my opinion. Just not been intrested in helping, charge absolutely astronomical prices that make my Mercedes look cheap then can't understand why I won't pay £60+ for a £2 worth of coolant hose.

Luckily there are so many enthusiasts out there as otherwise I would have junked my subarus a long time ago.

Have you used B&C recently?

I only ask as the two parts guys who were very good (I'm biased as I know then) left in the last year or so.

My experience with them after that was certainly not as good, so I'm interested to see other's views.

It should be coordinated through the DVLA database. However, we've had nothing, so don't rely on that!

Can i contact the local subaru dealer (once i know who that is!) to check or do i need a letter first? Seems like it may be wise to get the ball rolling asap if theres a waiting list.

Kinghams (Croydon) or Bell & Colvill (Horsley) should be your nearest two.

I had mine sorted back in November at Normandy Subaru. As soon as Subaru put the notice out about it I called them. Once they had the parts available, they called me straight away and booked me in. It's about a 90 min job and they didn't actually know what the fault even was, just what to do to fix it.

Top service from them though, ordered a few parts through them too. Only a small garage that relies on word of mouth a lot for business so reputation means a lot to them. Might be worth giving them a shout. They're just on the Surrey border next to Aldershot in Hampshire.

I had my airbag changed on Wednesday, I was in and out in less than an hour. Apparently dealers are doing one a month due to parts availability. They told me that official letters from Subaru should be going out next week.

I also had my steel wishbones checked which was the other recall outstanding for my car. I got the all clear on those

Looked on the uk site and it says to contact your dealer. That link should work I thought. Turned out mine was bought from Malta so wasn't on the system so wasn't registered with subaru uk for recalls

Recall letter arrived today, just had a call back from Maidstone Subaru saying "no parts, might be able to book you in possibly May"?

Looks like as soon as my Scooby comes over from Japan it'll be going straight back to Subaru lol. Or does this not apply to the Jap imports?

[apologies if you also read this on scoobynet]
After a few fruitless calls to Maidstone Subaru last year ('no idea when we'll be getting parts'), a couple of months ago I actually received a letter from Subaru UK informing me of the recall. I've owned the car since August 2014 and the recall was June 2015, and yet it has taken another 9 months? I suppose eventually their admin dogsbody will get around to everybody!

Anyway, in the letter was a list of potential dealerships that could do the work, including one in Tunbridge Wells (where I work) that doesn't sell Subaru any more. Another bit of sloppy admin from Subaru UK I thought, but when I rang them they said they still do servicing, just don't sell Scoobs anymore. Lifestyle Ford, in case anyone else wants to give them a try, 01892 731500.

So I put my name on the waiting list in March, and they rang me last week to say they'd got the parts, and I booked it in for Friday. All done in a couple of hours, and they checked the steel lower front control arms for corrosion too (another recall from a few years back), along with the obligatory check to see if they could sell me some other maintenance work. The lady said they had plenty of people on the waiting list and the parts were coming through very slowly, but reckoned they would get everyone done by the end of the year.
