'X' Plate Classic - Rise of the Silver Surfer
As some of you know I have had this car for several years (8 years in fact), and sold it back in April 2011.
Having now re-purchased the car to keep as a 2nd vehicle I thought I would run through it's history and add further info as it develops. As purchased, totally standard 'X' plate UK Spec (Dutch Import). 3 years old with 15,600miles on the clock :

Compomotive MO's, these didn't last long due to a poor refurb by Spit'N'Polish.
I wasn't happy with the finish, so sold them to Anger (some peoples standards are lower  )Was trying to get a wheel with better caliper clearance due to a pending 2nd Brake upgrade.

Due to a split Turbo hose, took the oppurtunity to paint the inlet manifold, as it had to come off to replace the hose.
   A few more polished goodies appeared over time, along with a Fuelab Fuel Pressure Regulator. By this time the car is running a VF28 Turbo / Apexi ECU with the Injectors max'd. A large number of the standard fixings being replaced with stainless and a bit of powder coat on header tank and various brackets.

Apexi Power Intake fitted (custom cold intake & heatshield):
This released approx 30BHP over the standard Airbox (running a Green Filter). Car lept from 305BHP to 335BHP, once I'd adjusted the map to run with the Apexi Intake

The car then sold soon after rebuild and has spent the rest of the time with a real car enthusiast who has many cars, inc a Cosworth RS500. Mine was just one of his collection, Hence it has done very little miles since leaving me 18 months ago.

Well that pretty much covers where I am today, although it will take a touch of effort to get it back to where it was in 2009/2010. Not too much though........and really looking forward to spending a bit more time on it.

Took the scoob out today... well reversed it out the garage.
Only to check the condition of the tyres, to be sure my purchase of the Altec's was not wasted .Refitted the rear bench, after my friendly MOT'er spotted it was loose. Turned out that the guy that bought the car from me had fitted an uprated fuel pump but obviously had no clue how the back seat was held in. He managed to snap the hooks off the bulkhead where the rear backrest clips in....muppet. Had to do a bit of bulkhead bending and cutting to get it to hook back on, but not 100% happy wth result. Will see how it goes, but I might have to rivet a bracket on or self tap some new hooks of some sort on there. I keep finding the odd little niggle that the guy managed to do, I'm just glad I got the car back before he really fooked it. I know there only little things but he didn't have it long. I think all these were done by the guy that initially bought it from me who had it for 5 months, then sold it to Nick who I got it back from : Dry glue on the centre console Dry glue on the top of dash where he tried to re-fit the corner pod. Thankfully it's under the pod. Dash scratched through vinyl by corner pod Carpet clip missing that retains the drivers floor mat. Mats were replaced but for some reason decided to rip the clip out of the carpet (has anyone got one ??) All 4 wheels scuffed Rear bumper replaced including number plate bullb holders, brackets and screws with what looks like new. Checking under it during the MOT nothing else is damaged and the rest of the rear end is still original. Hopefully I won't find too much more. What I have been able to confirm though is that the Apexi ECU map is still the mine as it matches the last map I put on in my laptop. Despite it spending time at Clive Atthowe for a remapping and RR session. Apparently it's been remapped to run on normal unleaded !!!! No doubt he was charged for the privilege.

Ultra lites arrived today, well packaged and tyres have plenty of tread.
Paint is a little flakey but I knew that, and not too worried for a 2nd winter set that can soon be re-painted. No scuffs whatsoever. However one tyre has a nice nail in it, close to the sidewall so will get it checked tomorrow The scooby breaker is dead gutted. He thinks it's from some racking he has just assembled and couldn't be more apologetic. If things all work out I will post up details as the guy deserves a mention for his services and praise for his attitude.

Well with all the Christmas Illness and the damp weather at the moment I have only managed to prime up the wheels.
Got all 4 primed Friday afternoon hoping to do the top coat at the weekend but although not raining the ground and air was pretty damp all weekend, so it'll have to wait.

Well, finally got round to finishing the painting of the wheels yesterday. Spent the afternoon in the garage with a heater and a hairdryer. Probably inhaled far too much spray paint while at it too.......
All set to put them on this morning, only to find they don't fit....DOH!!!!!..... They fowl the Brembo calipers on the front. They could be spaced, but I am on the limit of offset on the Classic already on 225's and an ET51 on the Prodrive PFF7's. These Ultralites are ET48, so no chance of spacing these without fowling the rear arch or getting them rolled. So they will be going up for sale, with the proceed's going towards getting my Prodrive PFF7's refurbed.

I was coming round to the idea of using spacers to get the Ultralites to fit.
I had worked out I had 3mm track each side to work with to keep it to the same total track width as the PFF-7's, and prevent any more arch clearance issues. However, I have just confirmed they have to go after a little trial this evening with a handfull of washers. To clear the Brembo's by 2.5mm I needed a 9mm shim with the Ultralites. The hub centre bore is only approx 10mm, so the wheel would be sitting on 1mm of hub. Therefore hubcentric spacers with an extended centre bore and longer studs would be required. This is then getting silly and already 6mm over my desired track width. Comparing to the PFF-7's Without shims the PFF-7's clear the Brembo's by 11mm. So in total the difference in clearance between an Ultralite (7.5" ET48) and PFF-7 (8" ET51) is 17.5mm which is quite shocking. It just goes to show how important a wheel style is when selecting an offset.

Bright Flitter for me. Looks sharp and goes well with the colour. I always think dark wheels are great for hiding muck, scrapes etc, but you cant beat nice shiney wheels when they are clean. They really set the car off. I always thought my gold alloys when they were spotlessly clean looked better than when they were painted grey.
Big E is running some pretty low profile tyres on those rims

Getting ready for the refurbed alloys, sourced a set of PFF7's resin centre caps to replace the coroded originals.
Originals are now unavailable and the last set for PFF7's I saw on ebay were over £100 !!!!! These are resin domed copies that I got an Ebay supplier to knock up to my specification. Very pleased with the quality and price at £10.99. The 'P' is a little larger then the originals, but for £10.99 I'll live with it. These are 60mm to fit the face of the PFF7's caps for the 58mm centre bore, but he can reproduce in any size. The plan is to peel the original metal covers off the plastic caps and replace with these. If anyone wants some I'll post up the details.
