Default gearbox fitting service ?

anyone know of anyone that can fit a gearbox n diff for me? nearly killed me last time i tried it in the side of the road !
needs to be cheap too as the twins are due to be born december/january, plus my weekly paid temp job is about to go permanent and monthly paid so I gotta do almost a month with no wages, before x-mas too !!

realy bad time for my gearbox to start goin !
its ok up to 55mph so I can drive to wherever to get it done. even prepared to pitch in n help if it gets it done quicker n cheaper

yeah, thought it was the diff cuz i was getting a slight knock on my rear when i go on/off the gas. its been there a while n i had my eye out for a 3.9 diff. then a few weeks ago one wheel left the ground n span on the exit of one of them roundabouts with a banked road surface. ever since then theres a whiring sound when I go over 55mph. I thought it must be the diff getting worse cuz I kew it wasnt too clever in the first place. Changed the diff yesterday n the whiring is still there when I go over 55mph

ive done new wheels, new BC coilovers, new rad, new exhaust, numerous small bits that were missing/damaged since b4 i got it. i;m at the point where if i saw smoke cumin out of it, I would walk away go make a cup of tea n come back when it was fully alight, then call the fire brigade n claim on the insurance !

i can get a secondhand box & matching diff for £160, but I dunno how good it will be.
if someone can supply and fit n guarantee the box to be a goodun, i'd go for that to make things simpler.
I'll PM jaffa.
mobile mechanic would be even easier, but ive changed a box at the side of the road before n i wouldnt wish that on anyone. doubt a mobile mechanic would be prepared to do it at the side of the road (I dont have a drive).

cheers

is that a RA box or a STi RA box?

only the STi version has the dccd center diff that you have

I've heard of ideal engines they quoted me 850 for a engine or 1295 fitted I thought it was abit to cheap and don't really trust that part of London so I left it cos no one else could tell me about them

There is this box and diff on 22B that would get you out of trouble
http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...;f=34;t=003660

you can swap the complte DCCD centre diff over (basically unbolt the transfer cases and swap them) then use the rear diff it comes with. If you have a plated 3.9 diff you can also swap the plated diff section into the 4.1 diff (ot put the 4.1 CWP into your current diff) Both are very simple things to do if the fitter has knowledge of building boxes

thanks but links dead. also, i'm not sure yet if its the actual box or the centre diff as the noise is in time with wheel speed so if i do sort it, I will need to be a complete unit, centre diff & all
