Default Picked up my new scoob today

Well, many of you know i have been looking to change my classic for something newer.
Having given up on the RAR due to its very high price & rareness and missing out on an S204, i had stopped looking .
Then The Pieman (Ron)sent me a link to a scoob.
I picked Ron up at 04.30am and he joined me for a 15 hour round trip to take a look.

The owner Steve and his wife mandy were waiting with a large plate of bacon rolls and mugs of tea a plenty, which were much needed, and very much apreciated.

It was chucking it down, but once it stopped for a few mins we got the cloths out and took a long hard look at the scoob, and it was just as described.

I could go on and on about this car, but i will save it,as i am going to bore you all many many times in future threads.
The car is filthy with bugs after a 7 hour drive, so a good clean required before i post any pics.

In an only fools and horse style
I am proud to unveil the "lesser Scoob"
Yep the only white P1 in existance - A very happy man indeed

Had to stop at Prodrive on way back

Big thanks to Steve for parting with such a special scoob.
great guy. Cheers mate

Am happy as have a rare scoob and saved a load of dosh, compared to the S204/RAR budget.

I had the camera ready just in case you gave me the call mate!

But I kinda guessed you would be too shagged and the car fly splatted to do tonight.

Glad you are back safe and sound. And you are not deaf or shaken to bits either!

Happy days fella, I am well chuffed for you mate.

I have hundreds i mean hundreds as its very well documented, all sorts of magazines.
Have all the test docs from Prodrive, it had a hard first 6500 km being tested at Mira, Milbrook and the Ring. Makes great reading.

lol, yeah, Thanks for all the info and help mate.
Felt nice on motorway, very responsive, would benefit from a decat, but have to be very careful of any mods as will ruin its uniqueness.

I had to wait 6 hours until i got off motorway and played with it a little, was stunning, poo to a blanket.

A little selection of pics that Steve the guy i brought it off gave me on a disc.

I will of course be putting my stamp on it over the next few months.
It needs a little paint work, nothing major.

Nice one Martyn, very nice scoob.
Do you intend to try and get hold of the original style alloys. They were gold speedlines with ally rims IIRC.

Hi Scott
Yes mate, am going to look for a mint set, also the car needs a few bits of paint work, nothing major, but has a few rust bubbles that need attention asap.

I will keep the wheels on it as i really like them and they are brand new, but will swap over for shows.

question is, do i decat? its really noticeable .
I wont go for big and loud for obviose reasons

stunning car though, and a real piece of Subaru history.

Hi Mate
I was completely set on a rare hawk, got fed up looking and was actually looking at all sorts of diferent cars, jap, german and even italian.
Then Ron pointed me at this one. which i am pleased to say ticks all the boxes for me. And on top of that its half the budget i had in mind.

Like we have said many times in the last few weeks, it's the fact that this car is a one off. You really have got something far rarer than the cars you were looking at initially.

There will always be another S204 somewhere, there will NEVER be another P1 Prototype

Enjoy driving a bit of history mate

Amazed that the owner parted ways with the car as this is truly one of a kind.

Their loss is your gain though, nice one!

Errrr with a rare car like that ONLY 1 IN THE WORLD! Your not exactly going to be trading paint with anyone young or old. Best hire one next time we go eh? Rare for next year a 22b & a white P1 on the Ring. That in it's self is worth the trip. I can see a mag getting interested in that.

They both can't drive! so slow mo won't be a problem

Martin, do you know Jackie at Prodrive ?

Agree with some aforementioned comments. I've been heavily involved on the P1 scene for 5 years now and Martin's white P1 has always been one of the most talked about and respected P1's on the planet. There are no others with a history that comes close.

I've attended many events when Steve's P1 was there and so I have seen the attention it gets ........ so Mr Crowman I suggest you start learning from the wealth of literature that came with the car mate as you can expect many to fire all the questions at you.

A lot of us in the P1Woc are really glad it has gone to a good man.
I've mentioned to many that Martin may look like something that lives in a ditch but he will cherish the P1

Nice looking car Martyn glad you finally got one sorted, but.....

Apart from it being rare is it really a step forward from the other one? Looks like the old one without the graphics and you can't really do anything to it if you want to keep it rare. Only my opinion and not wishing to put a downer on your new purchase lol

Clive I have just virtually choked on my profiteroles very fookin funny mate.
A ditch, you git

I am a member of P1OC and will be posting my very first post very soon.
I have feeling I will be on there rather alot in the future.
I know very little about the P1 other than what I've read in last 2 weeks.

Rich
Very fair coments mate, looks wise, I have always hankered for a 3 door but honestly was not looking for one.
The things I wanted from a new scoob was something different and as I'm getting more and more anal, I wanted something to clean and love like I did my classic.

I do have to say I took it for some country lane fun and it's spot on, virtually no lag and sticks to road so well, it's on a par with my classic for handling, but much more refined.

Love it.

As already said thanks for all coments guys, positive, negative and general, all interesting to me.

JRM have employed most of the X Prodrive team up North. You can still apply for a job mate. It would only help JRM/Sumo as the team they have at the mo is sh.t!!!

Sorry Clive/ Scott missed the bit about Jackie, I don't know her.
Previous owner Steve said she came up to him at the show on Sunday to say she was shocked to hear it was sold

She would want to keep in touch as I expect she would want the car at some events.

Worth pinging her a mail (leave the bit out about the ditch tho')

Martin, I was just sitting here thinking of when I first collected my P1 in Jan 2005 and bearing in mind it was on standard suspension, brakes and the only mods were the PPP and was running 310 BHp.

I've been lucky enough to have driven many Scoobs now and the P1 has a TOTALLY difference feel to all of them. In relation to handling the nearest to the P1 is the RA which is stiffer.
The P1 set up is brilliant and your bottle will go before the car does.

Like the SES the P1 Woc are a close bunch of good guys and tyres are always being compared in relation the suspension set up and the best tyre but a mile is the Hankook V12 Evo's. Awesome rubber !

Stick then on and you will have a car that frightens yer !

Then get it to nearly 600 Bhp and you will start 5hitting yourself

Thanks Scott, Nice one.

Clive, I have alot to learn and will be driving people nuts on P1 Woc, you included mate

Would you say the 300bhp is a safety first type figure/map
I would really like to be at 350/350 , that would satisfy me.
600bhp will need a promotion or a bit of luck on the lottery

I am eager to find out everything about the P1, i am an impatient bugger

The car is going to go in for some paintwork, as there are some small areas that need attention now, to ensure they dont get worse.

Any recomendations for paint guy/company
I dont mind paying top money if its right, which in this case it needs to be spot on.

Martyn ,

I have absoulully no hesitation in recommending

DC. Coachworks. (Pondswood industrial estate Hastings/St Leonards)

for any painting, they are not the cheapest,

but they are the best.

They work on classic and vintage motors worth often more than 6 figures,
Come and see me on Saturday.

That's worrying - Mart's bowels are loose enough outside a car, let alone in it!!

SPR Coachworks at Hailsham mate.

I wouldn't use anyone else when it comes to paint. They use more lacquer than anyone I know and thats one reason the P1 is easy to keep looking nice.

Lambo's, Bentleys, Main Porsche Dealers , GT40's, Mercs, Ferrari's you will see them all in their place and they are not expensive either.

http://www.sprcoachworks.co.uk/

Ask for Darren or James. Tell them I mentioned you as a few of my previous mates have had deductions.

I bought my P1 off James.

Big thanks to Steve for parting with such a special scoob.
great guy. Cheers mate

Its just a Type-R with a bodykit, whats all the fuss.

Did i say just before you drove off i had a month to re-consider,i want it back!!

I,m glad your happy with the car Martyn,i know its always a good sales pitch to say you want the car to go to a good home, but that really was important to me,as you know,i was,nt desperate to sell, but i could tell as soon as we started chatting you were the right guy to own the car,i would rather have kept it than sell it to just anybody.

I,m sure you,ll get as much enjoyment from it as i have,it really is the best car i,ve ever owned.

You mention it drives well,i think we kinda forgot to talk about that when you were here, strange that, but as you say,it does stick like s**t,i,ve owned 2 other Impreza,s before this one,and they were pretty good, but the P1 is shockingly good,i remember shouting at the top of my voice when i first drove it home, anybody seeing me must have thought i was a lunatic.

As for the map,i got it done at Tegsport (Steve Simpson)as soon as i got it,and he did say it would have easily acheived 350 bhp with a de-cat and a 3"backbox,so you should have no bother getting that sorted,i just put the 100 cell sport cat and kept the P1 stamped 2.5" backbox because it was my daily driver,so i wanted it running as safely as possible.

Anyway, enjoy the car mate,i,ll keep bobbing on to see how it progresses, and if you decide to sell it dont forget,i,ve got first shout

Steve

I,m glad i did,nt waste your time and it was what you both expected,i just hope i have a similar experience now i,m looking for something new

I hope your all sorted now as well mate, and i,ve a funny feeling your talents are going to be getting some serious use shortly,i think Southeastscoobies is going to be the shiniest Subaru club in Britain for a while, and i,m looking forward to the imminent photo shoots.

Some of the best Scoobs out there including Clives animal plus a photographer mate plus a detailer/perfectionist/sellers worst nightmare makes for some good times ahead

Steve

Default p1

i appreciate the rarity of martyns being white and it looks fantastic

dont get me wrong the p1 is nice but i fail to see what the fuss is about with the p1.
i dont mean to sound harsh and nothing ment personally to anyone but if i had a 99 sti type ra with dccd in 1 hand an a 99 turbo 2000 in the other what would people rather go for? answer the sti as the euro version isnt half as good.

its the same story with the p1. being a euro version of type r there mapped diffrently for uk fuel but being euro spec thay dont have sti rear lights/sti dials or dccd as euro cars have abs instead and dont come with a sti spoiler hence prodrive put there own on it and only the laiter cars had the spots

Quick geeky question martyn but as its the p1 prototype and is a type r base does it have the alloy bonnet not steel like the uk versions?

Was it a fully built working type r delivered to prodrive where they set to making it the way forword for the future p1s?

Guys, to be honest with you, I am still learning about my car and P1,s
I have owned a Jap import for 9yrs and know everything there is to know about it.
I brought the prototype for two reasons 1, it's a White 3 door, 2 it is 1 of 1and there will never be another.
I wanted something different and the prototype sure is different
It has amazing history to it, I mean to have the engineer test folders with all the testing at milbrook and Mira is just brilliant .
I believe the car started life as a group n but might be wrong.
Anyone that can asist with any further info please feel free to post.

The White Prototype was/is a group N donor car (V5 type R) that Prodrive had available to enable testing/development to begin whilst awaiting the Blue show cars (press vehicles), which were Blue Type R's that were finaly modded to look like the finished P1's.

The final P1's were vehicle specific cars and not type R's with bits removed or added by Prodrive the cars were fitted out in Japan and finished in the UK by Prodrive.

Mike Wood:
Quote:
A P1 isn't a Type R with bits removed, it best described as a V6 4 door built into a 2 door bodyshell with Type R suspension. Bit more complex than that as some parts were fitted in Japan and more were fitted in the UK but it's more correct than saying it's a low spec Type R.
Being the only variant to carry the Prodrive name still makes the P1 a little special to the enthusiasts, bare in mind it was the demand for the vehicle that increased the production run from 500 IIRC to the final 1000.... so demand for the vehicle has always been there.

Type R or P1 comes down to individual taste IMO and what the individual wants from the car. Personaly I would rather the P1, especially the White 1 but again this is just my opinion.
