Default 2012 SES Nurburgring Trip - 1st June / 5th June 2012

Right then folks, I know we have only just got back from this years trip, but after a reminder about dates of bank holidays (Cheers Steve PPP ) I have this morning e-mailed Jackie to firm up the dates.

The dates we have gone for next year are Friday 1st June to Tuesday 5th June. We get the extra day courtesy of good old Queeny, gawd bless er and all that! There is plenty of scope for anyone to go down earlier than Friday 1st June ( I will be for sure) but we can sort that detail out on the proper list later in the year.

As has been the way in previous years, the first list is a provisional list and therefore you are not committed (though some of you should be ). The list we formulate now will be updated around Christmas time, where everyone on the list will be sent a PM and asked to submit or not to the proper list, via a new thread. Then you have until end of Feb 2012 until I ask for deposits, this will be the last chance to pull out without losing any money.

All of those who have been either this year or the two before that, will know what a good trip this is and will hopefully be chomping at the bit to get there again. If you haven't been before, take the plunge, you will absolutely love it. As Johnny on 5th Gear said "if you only ever do one track day in your life time, this is the one you HAVE to do".

Not Daz Davies DazP1 956 (Darran Power) and Lucia pronounced Loo Cheer (Italian).

Hes jumping up & down like a mad man at the thought of The Ring

Lets leave what happened this year to lie. I maybe bringing someone else next year so dont want to frighten her off already with the vases and flowers abuse

Glad to see so many people wanting to go next year though, should be a good one again.

To give you an idea mate I took my Mrs with me so bare that in mind (food / drinks)

My hotel bill was £ 360.00 (3 nights / 6 breakfasts & 4 evening meals) (top food)

Evening meal at Saliva Spitz (what ever you call her) parents Restaurant

Four laps of the Ring (22 Euros a lap)

Fuel £ 4,620 (your mpg will be much better than mine)

and about £ 200 on bits & pieces (meals on route / Coffee's / KY Gel / 2 pairs of new knickers for wife after laps / ear plugs (wife screaming) etc

Not as expensive as I had thought.

Only kidding.

Filled up at Tonbridge Friday morning

Half a tank in France (on route)

Put three quarters of a tank in Germany (on route)

Filled up 3 times at the 103 Ron near the ring

Filled up again at the 103 on the Monday morning

Put in two thirds of a tank where we ate on the way home

Got home empty

When I went this year I didnt have a sat nav. I stayed in the middle of the main convey most of the time. Walkie talkies helped alot too.

Next trip I'll have a euro sat nav, but will stay with the convey as they are a bit of a laugh on the way there and back

Nice picture

It surprising how steep even the 'mini carousel' is?

Just dont drive like a loon on your first few laps and you'll be fine, or follow someone who knows where they are going is good.

I have no intention of doing that - I'll have unprotected ******** and the missis will be sat next to me. Seriously though, I wouldn't anyways, I like my car in the condition it's in and I definitly do not want to hit any of those expensive barriers!

Just try and get out on the track when its quiet for your first run and drive to your pace and speed and not the car in front. oh and keep looking in that rear view mirror for locals who rapidly sneak up from behind.

I'd recommend having a go on track somewhere on track before going if you want to make the best of your Ring trip. If its your first time over there, you probably won't do more than a handful of laps.

I did an evening at Brands before going to the Ring - so that i knew the car and its limits in the corners, what i could expect of the brakes (how long they took to fade!) etc. Makes sense to know all that before you go, so you don't waste your first couple of laps working it all out!

Also much easier to find the limits on a uk track, better run off areas if you overstep the mark, and no barrier costs

If I find time and money I may well put that advice to good use, but between now and the ring I need to bring my car up to scratch if I can.

I need to sort out:

  • Brakes as they fade too much too often, will try Blue stuff & grooved disks
  • Handing - going to try out a Whiteline ARB, an anti-lift kit (gets a bit light when I floor it) and maybe other various bushes etc then possibly some coilovers

After that lot I would like to get a map done for more torque. Lots of monies between now and then! (If I can afford all of it heh...)

It is the best way without doubt

The thing to remember is you are driving it home after the weekend. It's totally different if like Neil you know the track well. He can batter round there pretty bloody quickly, but for us mere mortals you are better off taking it easy and enjoying what is without doubt a great experience.

It's a weekend that caters for all at the end of the day. Some people are there to get on the track and round the track as quickly as possible, no matter what. Some will go round in a fairly spirited fashion on or near the limits. Some will go round there quickly, yet still well inside the limits. Some will take it easy and play it safe. There's no rules you have to follow, you do it how you want to do it matey.

My only recommendation would be, don't follow someone in the group first time out, it's just far too easy to get sucked into a pace you are not comfortable with.

The weekend is about a good time at the end of the day. Some nice meals, a few Bitburgers and most importantly a great laugh with a good bunch of blokes.

Fantastic advice/info - it does sound like a bloody good weekend holiday. It's really good to know all of what you wrote there thanks

What are bitburgers? German beefburgers? My missis has a little German blood but has never been over there so she is looking forward to seeing the country.

Pigsti a good bit of advice would be to have a friend / partner in the passenger seat with the centre mirror adjusted so your passenger can be "your mirror", and advise you of traffic coming up behind you.

With no track experience you will have some traffic come flying past you and you will spend the rest of the lap living in your mirrors.

That way you can concentrate on your driving and what's up ahead.

We wait until we have the confirmed dates for track opening.(although the hotel is provisionally booked now I believe)

Your name is on the list :double:

Worzel booked us in last year after receiving a minimal deposit.

Looks like we will have the hotel to ourselves at this rate.

The convoy down is certainly going to fun
