I have a MY99 sti , my first gear at a stand still or at a slow speed would always be notchy or hard to get into but I've recently changed the gearbox oil and it feels totally different.

Might be worth changing the oil first before you start swapping gear boxes.

Have a word with some of the oil techs on here, ASperformance or Opie oils. Ive heard Castrol syntrax does wonders on notchy gear boxes but check first for your year of scoob.

Ooh yes good point, I did change my clutch fluid also as it was so brown it was like looking through a bottle of Newcastle brown ale!
