i beleive the my 1st and 2nd gear syncros are on theyre way out as its often hard to get into these gears (not too bad but i figure its worth nipping it in the bud )

I have a MY99 sti , my first gear at a stand still or at a slow speed would always be notchy or hard to get into but I've recently changed the gearbox oil and it feels totally different.

Might be worth changing the oil first before you start swapping gear boxes.

Have a word with some of the oil techs on here, ASperformance or Opie oils. Ive heard Castrol syntrax does wonders on notchy gear boxes but check first for your year of scoob.

no worries fella, change your oil, drive it and see if it makes a difference. If not then dig a little deeper. hope its nothing major!!

same here lucky for me my brothers a very good and willing mechanic although new to the scooby side of things hes saved me a small fortune already which makes bigger problems a great deal smaller ;) ive been chasing coolant leaks for a while now everytime i replaced a coolant pipe another went so ive now changed them all for samco and genuine subaru metal pipes then the water pump seals went haha just my luck so then changed for high flow water pump and did cambelt at the same time

clutch pedal adjustment, poor/old clutch fluid or poor/old gear oil can all have an impact.....

Ooh yes good point, I did change my clutch fluid also as it was so brown it was like looking through a bottle of Newcastle brown ale!
