Those who have been before will probably have most of this stuff already. For those who have not been before, the below list is invaluable.

Most of the items in the "For The Car" section are actually law in Europe, so I would advise that you make sure that you do / have these things arranged.

I'm sure that most of you who have been before will have this stuff, but it's well worth double checking, just in case. Anything that you haven't got can be purchased at places like Halfords, or worst case scenario on the ferry, but they do charge a bit more there.

The items in BLUE are the ones that are Law in Europe!

I'm curious, as my first trip out in the Scoob, so minus the cash for the hotel, how much do people go through / how much should I bring with me?

Talking all in, petrol, few laps, beer etc?

Pm if you prefer, just want a rough idea as its better to have the cash to hand and not need it, rather then need it and not have it to hand.

Agree with Crowman here is a rough breakdown also:

Alot of your expense depends on how much you drink as it can soon mount up

The Ring costs 26 euros per lap or you can buy 4 laps for 96 euros

Room costs 78 euros per night (38 euros each twin)

Roughly 5/6 tanks of fuel (it should be a little cheaper over in Germany)

The meals are around 25/30 euros pp (in the evenings)

the hotel does a good continental breakfast so will probably need a snack during the day

Whilst on the trip if you are sharing room/fuel costs etc 600 euro s each (depending on how much you drink)


Check the list for other things you need cost wise.

Hi Guys,re the list of stuff you must carry these are the rules in France; fluorescent jackets for the driver and all passengers(these must be in the car and not in the boot).From the 1st June a breathalyser kit must be carried,the police say that this won't be enforced until 1st Nov,but I'am not taking any chances.These can be brought in France from big supermarkets,service stns,etc and cost 1.5 euros.Finally in France the police are really cracking down on speeding motorists, they even have Subaru's on the motorway,so be careful out there.

V-Power was €1,73 this morning, but that is a comparatively "cheap" price. Our fuel prices go up and down like a roller coaster at the moment. There can be differences of up to 10 cents even at the same day. Well, at least you lot are very lucky with the exchange rate this time as it looks.

It's getting worse, Steve. I just drove past the Shell garage again and saw that I had misread it this morning. What I saw was V-Power diesel (didn't even know they have this stuff). V-Power petrol is, hope you are sitting nice and safe, €1.85

That's exactly what I paid for V-Power here the other day. £1.50 per litre.

At least it's on a par, so doesn't make me feel quite so bad.

Long gone are the days of crossing the channel to fill up for a saving!

I still go across the border to the Czech Republic. I'm just about 13 miles away and if you take an additional container, it pays. Mostly I safe about 20 cents per liter.

Yup, but I think that's the only advantage of living here. Apart from that I must say, it feels like living at the bottom of the world (to put it politely). No decent direct flight to England from here at the moment to start with. Last time I went from Dresden to Heathrow via Frankfurt. Took me 4 hours, just the flights. With a direct flight it took me 1 hour and a half.

I'm 1 hour and a half from Dresden or about 2 hours away from Leipzig (both by car). From Leipzig Ryanair is flying directly to Stansted but comparing all the costs that would be even more expensive for me than flying with Lufthansa from Dresden. Because to Dresden I can go by train which doesn't cost me anything as I work for the railways. This doesn't work for Leipzig as Ryanair fly at night. So on the way back I would get stuck at some railway station for the night. Flying Ryanair would bring up another problem. As they are so strict on luggage sizes and weights it would be nearly impossible to bring the laptop over. (Haven't got an i-pod or so to go on the internet ). That's why I decided to try this conneting flight via Frankfurt two weeks ago (10 hours from my house to Heathrow). It worked quite well on the way to London but on the way back it was a nightmare. Delay from London, running around like a lunatic at Frankfurt, nearly missing the conneting flight, then nearly missing the train in Dresden........... Not nice at all. Am not sure what I'll do next time. I might go to Frankfurt by train. So at least I won't have a conneting flight.

I like your last remark, Steve. Owning a P1 WOULD be a dream come true. I was quite close to moving over to England about 10 years ago. But then I got a safe job here and as I'm the only one in the family who can look after my Mum, I stayed.

Hi Kerstin, when I went to Leipzig for work last year we flew from Heathrow to Berlin (with British Airways), got a cab across Berlin to the train station, then got the train from Berlin to Leipzig - could you get a train from Berlin or is that a mammoth journey to your place? It took about 7 hours from Heathrow to Leipzig I think.

Hi Claire, thanks for your thoughts. Anyway, I live about 200 miles south of Berlin. This would be at least a 4 hour train journey. It's an option but wherever I go, it doesn't seem to make much difference time-wise. Many thanks anyway. The good times have long gone. Until 2010 I went to Altenburg by car (70 minutes, carpark was free), then in the plane (90 minutes) to Stansted. That was nice, but they cancelled it.

Anyway, if you go to Leipzig next time, I could meet you there quickly.

Took the Scoob to Brighton today only to get my front screen damaged. Now being fixed on Sarurday. My luck isn't good at the moment as the clutch on the Rav went bust to! Not happy.

Reading some of the info on the web, some countries require you to be able to prove ownership of the vehicle if you are stopped - which the V5 is the usual document to produce. (Yes, i know the new red V5's state the opposite on the top of them )

The Nokia's are fine.

Smart phones are ok but I find you get a better signal strength and battery life with the cheapies.

At least you will only have to charge it once just before you leave, instead of every other day..

I've got a foot pump in the boot, although that won't help you on the way over

Last year my pressures were up in the 40s after a couple of laps in the afternoon so I was screeching round every corner. Will let them down when hot this year then pump up after
