Ring Check List 2012
Those who have been before will probably have most of this stuff already. For those who have not been before, the below list is invaluable.
Most of the items in the "For The Car" section are actually law in Europe, so I would advise that you make sure that you do / have these things arranged. I'm sure that most of you who have been before will have this stuff, but it's well worth double checking, just in case. Anything that you haven't got can be purchased at places like Halfords, or worst case scenario on the ferry, but they do charge a bit more there. The items in BLUE are the ones that are Law in Europe! The Check List FOR THE CAR 1: Spare Bulb Kit 2: Warning Triangle 3: Hi Visibility Vests (1 for each person in car) 4: Headlight Beam Deflectors 5: Fire Extinguisher 6: First Aid Kit 7: Octane Booster 8: Oil (optional but advised) 9: GB Sticker (if you dont have GB on your number plate) 10:Spare Key 11: Sat Nav (with European Data) 12: Crash Helmet (not compulsory) 13: European Insurance & Breakdown Cover (make sure it covers repatriation, just in case) 14: Track insurance (those insured with Keith Micheals, call Moley) 15: Driving License (including Paper Part) 16: Locking wheel nut tool 17: Tyre pressure gauge 18: Breathalyser kit PERSONAL ITEMS 1: Ferry Tickets (confirmation e-mail) & Passports 2: E 111 3: Euro's and debit / credit cards (inform bank that you are away for safety) 4: Mobile Phone & Charger 5: Headache Tablets (trust me) 6: European Plug Adaptor 7: Walkie talkies ? 8: Big bag of cash. Euros. Those with TOM TOM's down load the shell garages onto your european maps. If you know of anything that need adding to this list, please feel free to add it. :ok: Not long now getting excited !!.:doubleup: |

Can you imagine doing the ring in a tiger tank!
BTG 1 hour 44 mins :drive: |
I'm curious, as my first trip out in the Scoob, so minus the cash for the hotel, how much do people go through / how much should I bring with me?
Talking all in, petrol, few laps, beer etc? Pm if you prefer, just want a rough idea as its better to have the cash to hand and not need it, rather then need it and not have it to hand. Cheers. |
Don't forget the breathliser. Budget 2 tank full's + another 2 when your there track & stuff. 2 tanks back. Booze, food, drugs & mobile vigina. :EVO:
|
Rough idea
Fuel £350 Hotel and meals if sharing £300 Booze £200 Cherry bar ££££££££££££££££££ I budget about £800 if sharing everything |
Quote:
|
Sorry confused things really .
This is what I spend roughly Ferry £60 Fuel approx £350 to £400 Hotel £360 depending on room Approx £100?a day for meals and booze Ring £80 Breakdown £80 If sharing , then half your fuel, ferry and hotel |
Perfect, Thanks mate.
|
Quote:
Alot of your expense depends on how much you drink as it can soon mount up The Ring costs 26 euros per lap or you can buy 4 laps for 96 euros Room costs 78 euros per night (38 euros each twin) Roughly 5/6 tanks of fuel (it should be a little cheaper over in Germany) The meals are around 25/30 euros pp (in the evenings) the hotel does a good continental breakfast so will probably need a snack during the day Whilst on the trip if you are sharing room/fuel costs etc 600 euro s each (depending on how much you drink) Check the list for other things you need cost wise. Insurance Breakdown with repatriation etc |
Excellent post guys, I CAN'T FRIGGIN' WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT :)

Hi Guys,re the list of stuff you must carry these are the rules in France; fluorescent jackets for the driver and all passengers(these must be in the car and not in the boot). From the 1st June a breathalyser kit must be carried, the police say that this won't be enforced until 1st Nov,but I'am not taking any chances. These can be brought in France from big supermarkets, service stns, etc and cost 1.5 euros. Finally in France the police are really cracking down on speeding motorists, they even have Subaru's on the motorway,so be careful out there.
|
Thanks for the tips mate .
I for one, won't be speeding , not until the unrestricted stretches of the autobahn. |

High vis vest are mentioned in the list item 3 but its useful to mention they have to be in the car. With regards to the Breathalyser it says here: http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-france.htm they are required from the 1st July?? |
Defo says the 1st June in french papers, would be a good idea to have them just in case, especially as they are so cheap.I already have 2 in my car.

So next year. |

V-Power was €1,73 this morning, but that is a comparatively "cheap" price. Our fuel prices go up and down like a roller coaster at the moment. There can be differences of up to 10 cents even at the same day. Well, at least you lot are very lucky with the exchange rate this time as it looks. |
Blimey, not cheap at all then. :zoiks:
And we always moan that other countries wouldn't put up with these petrol hikes, maybe they do? |
Quote:
Quote:
It's getting worse, Steve. I just drove past the Shell garage again and saw that I had misread it this morning. What I saw was V-Power diesel (didn't even know they have this stuff:oops:). V-Power petrol is, hope you are sitting nice and safe, €1.85  :hitfan: |
Quote:
At least it's on a par, so doesn't make me feel quite so bad. Long gone are the days of crossing the channel to fill up for a saving! |

So how far are you from the Airport? That adds another scenario if it's a long way off. You could always move to Blighty and get yourself a nice P1 to blast around in :drive: |
Quote:
I like your last remark, Steve. Owning a P1 WOULD be a dream come true. http://www.p1woc.co.uk/forums/images...es/001_tt1.gifhttp://www.p1woc.co.uk/forums/images...es/001_tt1.gifhttp://www.p1woc.co.uk/forums/images...es/001_tt1.gif :D I was quite close to moving over to England about 10 years ago. But then I got a safe job here and as I'm the only one in the family who can look after my Mum, I stayed. :) |
How long would it take by using the train alone ?

Im going to use my mob , as the radios are not much cop unless realy close, although they are a bloody good laugh when we are all in tight convoy.
Had some right giggles. I have a few ideas regarding convoy down, will need to swap numbers with a few people. |
I will be taking mine
10...4 good buddy c'mon.. |
Radios are great in towns, but rubbish on the motorways.
I would say stick with the phones personally :ok: |
Quote:
Ill chuck the radios in the bag any way. |

Smart phones are ok but I find you get a better signal strength and battery life with the cheapies. At least you will only have to charge it once just before you leave, instead of every other day..:tumbleweed: |
Quote:
You must know someone with a double sized battery! Every bloody day mate! |
Yep i'll make do with my old Sony Ericsson K800i, should only need to charge it once :)
|
Just a thought even though im not driving, is somebody taking a footpump or is there a machine in a local garage?
|
Good call rich , will see if I can find my cig lighter one
|
I've got a foot pump in the boot, although that won't help you on the way over ;)
Last year my pressures were up in the 40s after a couple of laps in the afternoon so I was screeching round every corner. Will let them down when hot this year then pump up after :) |
I've got a Halfords power pack thingy, air compressor, jump starter etc, just charging it up now :ok:
|
