Default engine change

hi all am thinking of fitting a ej25 into my classic next year.will i be able to use my wrx box or will i need to change it

You don't need to change the box. Good idea to change the clutch though.

2.5 is likely to have too much torque for a 5 speed in the long run. It'll fit I had mine on a 5 speed for a bit.

im building a road legal track car. so thats why i want to put a 2.5 in it

I'd do a 2.1 or 2.35
2.5 is not a track engine I d want again

My view is 2.5 for road, 2.1 or 2.35 (if you have deeper pockets for track)

My 2.5 is great on the road but on track it's too fragile and doesn't like to be revved that hard. Getting a 2.5 pinned or closed would increase safety margin but the engine would still be about low down torque not really a track setup.

ej22 with a 2.5 crank (needs a rear thrust conversion to fit) with forged rods and pistons will give you the holy grail of impreza engine the 2.35. If I had my time again I'd wait on my rebuild and do the above, C.J did the same having a very good strong 2.5 he still switched to a 2.35 because of the reliability/safety.
