After going over everything in the engine bay to find the problem I found that the breather system had been plumbed back in wrong when the engine was replaced and was pretty much doing the opposite of what it should - filling up my intake with oil!. I also found a blow in my up-pipe gasket which has now been replaced. I'll take it back to have the map looked at again once the clutch has been replaced. The turbo has still got potential to make a bit more power. |

Rear diff has been leaking for ages so finally decided to sort it out.
Ordered a full seal kit but only looks like the backplate has been leaking Drained the old oil and removed the diff Soaked in degreaser twice to get all the crap off Gasket changed and then gave the diff and all the covers a few coats of paint Will re fit tomorrow once it's all dry. |

Changed my boost solenoid from the old prodrive one (that I'd managed to snap one of the ports on and has been held together with superglue for the past couple of weeks! ) for a Hdi/Mac one.
Drives a lot smoother again with a properly working solenoid! Last edited by Greenie; 13-08-2015 at 10:36 PM. Reason: Added pictures |

Decided to sort the rear speakers out as the standard 4" Subaru items are the cheapest, worse quality speakers I have ever seen.
Had been given these second hand 16cm speakers a while ago so thought id give them a try. Was pretty obvious they were never going to fit in the standard openings so I cut the holes to size with a dremel and gave it a quick paint to stop any rust. Door cards fitted back on fine and definitely sounds a lot better. |

Hi mate, your rear lights........
I have seen conflicting information online about the fitments of Blob lights on a bug. someone said they fit fine others are saying this is not possible without changing the bumper too! What did you do? Thanks |
#21
|
||||
|
||||
I just bolted them straight up with the bug bumper. I squashed the foam down under the circular part at the bottom , others say to remove it completely but mine seemed to do up ok with it there.

They do fit with the bug bumper, but the shut-line isn't 100% perfect up against the rear quarter. Hardly noticeable though - i've had blob lights on mine for a few years and nobody has pointed it out (now they will!). I removed the foam half-circle on mine.
Could have showed you yesterday but never mind! I think the blob lights really lift the back of the car and make it look newer |

thanks for clearing that up chaps. I will go and buy myself some new lights now.
It really does change the back end so much. The Bugs have very tired looking rear lights |

Car finally put back together and loving being able to get out and drive it again.
Forgot how well it goes without a slipping clutch! Had a reasonably sensible drive down to Bournemouth this evening to bed the new clutch in a bit before giving it full boost on the way back. Held the power fine so I'm very happy. Boost gauge was reading a little high (1.5 bar peak) but it's the first time I've been able to use it properly since fitting the adjustable actuator and new boost solenoid. Might just be because it's a cold evening but I may have to get the map checked too. |

01 Bugeye WRX
Will need mapping with those bits fitted...
As a rule of thumb anything that changes rates of boost, fuel or air (component change) should really include a map check/tweek solenoids, exhausts, induction kits and so on

Sorted the overboosting I think. The new solenoid was supposed to have the third port vented to atmosphere instead of to the intake pipe like the old prodrive one. Blanked off the pipe and it seemed to be OK when I drove it this evening.

I wouldn't drive it on boost until mapped to be safe,

Not updated this in a while.
Deleted the purge valve to tidy up the engine bay a bit more following these instructions Had a mate weld a sports cat into my downpipe as I was sick of swapping it over for MOTs. Passed MOT emissions fine once he'd taken it for a run for the brake test. Seems OK with it, needs a map tweak though. |

Car was idling far too high and wouldn't go back down to where it should be, then a CEL popped up and the car would hardly run.
Can't find my vagcom lead but guessed it was the Idle Control Valve (had one go bad before) Took it apart this morning and gave it a good clean with brake cleaner then a spray of WD40. Car is running fine again. Have ordered a second hand valve just in case, but seems OK at the moment. |

Barely used my car since getting a house with my girlfriend and buying a campervan (nissan elgrand)
Started it up for the first time in months this morning and took it for a service and Mot. Passed no problems, just two blown bulbs and an advisory for some rust on the coilovers. Very happy. Forget how much I enjoy driving it too! |

I meant to ask Greenie what did you do about venting the fuel tank after blanking everything off on the engine bay? Assuming you removed carbon canister as well?

So another year on and need to MOT it at some point. Think I've only done about 1000 miles since the last one. My turbo is knackered sadly, oil seals have definitely gone. Loads of oil in the intercooler pipe coming off the turbo and a little smoke on boost.
Took it out on the weekend and also has a crack in the exhaust housing. Time to look for a new turbo. |

Had a crack in one of my morette headlights. I couldn't find a replacement lens online however a search of the US forums showed people using a fog light lens from a mazda tribute.
Picked up a new one off ebay cheap. Heated both up in the oven, cut through and removed all the glue and swapped them over then sealed with some silicone. Reinstalled and looks fine. Just need to sort out the mess of wiring and multiple relays that have been used for the headlights now. Sent from my Lenovo P2a42 using Tapatalk |
