Default Both dipped beam headlights gone...what to check first?

Noticed on my way home yesterday that both my dipped beam headlights were not working. Haven't got as far as checking the bulbs or fuses yet, but it seems strange that they would both blow at the same time...

Since I'm not at home with the manual, which fuse(s) should I check?
Is there something else (relay?) that would cause them both to stop working at the same time?

Well, it turns out that both bulbs had blown at the same time (both fuses OK). Still seems a bit odd and makes me wonder if there is a deeper gremlin behind it.

To make matters worse, I went and bought a pair of bulbs and one of them was duff so have to go back again!

Actually, it also made me notice that if you put my licence plate (or car details) into the online bulb checker thingy, it says my dipped beams should be H4, but actually they are H1s. No idea why, any guesses?

if there is a gremlin it can only be your alternator spiking out - did you check rear bulbs are ok ?

If one bulb had blown before the other it may cause on increase in volts/amps to the other reducing the life of the second one.

I had a bulb and fuse go at the same time to knock both out. Replaced them and was fine for years after. Damn weird but there you go
