Default SES @ Nurburgring May 29th - June 1st

I have started a new thread on this as I am wondering if everyone knew that we were moving on these dates?

As stated above, South East Scoobies are going to the Nurbergring!

We are aiming to get an early ferry out on Friday 29th May and catch the ferry home late afternoon / evening on Monday 1st June.

As mentioned in the previous thread, we need to get a list compiled fairly quickly so that we can look at hotel and ferry booking as afr in advance as possible. The "Ring" will be starting to get busier at this time of year, so we don't want to get caught out with either no accommodation or being split up. This may be unavoidable but we can but try.

The list for this trip so far is as follows:

1. SilverSurfer+1
2. Worzel & Laura
3. herbert
4. Nige + son

Im sure you could mate. We could meet up once your in France. £££ will be more money though. I am now booked well ferry wise anyway. There are no deals to be had so please just book to make sure we are all together. May 29th at 8am leaving Dover for Dunkirk. June 1st at 8pm leaving Dunkirk For Dover . Still waiting to hear on accomodation. I can feel the adrenillin allready. http://www.norfolkline.com/ Ps not to forget they are 1hour ahead so should land Dunkirk aprox 11am then 4/5 hour drive. Should still have time for a few laps, Then a few pints.

Ben Lovejoy's Nurburgring Nordschleife Web Site
Fan site for the track considered by Jackie Stewart as the greatest and most challenging race circuit in the world.
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk This might help. http://www.northloop.co.uk Ferry= £50 return. Accomodation =aprox 40 euro per night. Fuel= how long is a pice of string Same with food and drink. Track = aprox 70euro x4laps. Enjoyment = Priceless.

Cool, I was more for the tunnel and don't thnk Dunkirk saves alot on the driving. But if this is the plan then I will go for it.

We do need to check out and make sure :

1. All have insurance of driving abroad
2. All have europe breakdown cover
3. Insurance for the Ring (I will talk to Moley)
4. All have required hi-vis vests/jackets

Does anyone know of roads/places to go while there i.e to soak up the time when the ring is closed.

Aprox 40 miles on travel. Not to be sniffed at mate. Like i said before i have only been once the roads around the ring, leading to and comming from are fantastic. The place is full of petrol heads and the views are unreal. 1/ Nige booked ferry.

Does anyone have 2-way radio.

I bought a rechargable set for the kids for christmas.
Binatone 8 channel units from Argos, about £14.99

could be a worth-while investment

If i decide to come then 2-way radios won't be a problem, got about 15 pairs of the things at work i can pinch

i guess track insurance is the big unknown for me, and what happens in the worst case scenario (hate to be pessimistic but still.....). I'm guessing European breakdown cover won't include recovery of a bust car back to the UK if you happen to be nextdoor to the ring?

Bear in mind that the Ring is a public road - I believe last time I was there we just required to notify insurance that we were driving abroad. That's from memory though!

I'm pretty sure most insurance companies have exclusions for the Nurburgring!

Check the exclusions in the small print on your insurance. If it excludes one way toll roads then your definetly not covered.

Hi Nigel,

No problems with a twin room for you and your son for 29May - 1 Jun
It is getting busy that weekend already, but I can deal with any extras as they get in touch.

Our rates are 32 euro pppn inc continental breakfast and secure bike parking. English breakfast is 6 euro extra. We require a 1 night deposit per person payable via paypal on our website at http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/contact.htm once the booking has been confirmed.
If you would like to book, please confirm by return email.
We look forward to hearing from you

Bren

Looks good for that money. A couple of biker mates of mine stayed there and enjoyed it. What do you think? Ps this Bren guy who ownes it also holds one of the fastest time's around the ring bikewise. A.K.A The Red Barron. Now this place is aprox 14miles away from the ring so if he's getting busy now, best not drag our feet to much me thinks. Nige

I have heard that if you bend it, it's 1000EU to get towed off.
If you damage any of the infastructutre i.e barriers or surface then you have to pay for that too. Sounds fair enough and I think alot of tracks expect this these days.

Check your break down cover as well as I don't think the AA (for example) will recover from the ring or if they deem that the reason you broke down was caused by use at the ring

Yes covered for one way toll roads There version of the AA has no problem with giving you a tow or assisting at the side of the road. So all positive then

Been chatting to a friend about this as he has been involved with a trip before. He found out that all vehicles are photoed as they enter the ring and if you break down around the ring area they can check if you have been there and refuse to come to you. This happened to a guy on there trip who was with the AA.If you crash they charge 100 euros per metre of armco damaged and 5000 euros per hour or part off if the track has to be closed. If i come on the trip thinks it's a slow drive round for me

Just drive within your limits! I wanna go for the experiance and to come home happy rather than a thrash and a possible trip home in the back of someone else's!!!

My car last year was running aprox 200bhp [pipe probs] and i can honestly say i had the time of my life. You need alot of track time at the ring to be fast and we are not going to do that in a weekend I have been in touch with another group that are going the same weekend. They are 911.com aprox 25 of them turnning up

Will copy and paste the info Nige & Scott got from the other thread.

From Scott
Ring Costs are :
2008 Price in Euros Sterling equiv Sterling per lap
Single lap €21
4-lap ticket €70
8-lap ticket €135
15-lap ticket €235

From Nige
Hotel:
I have sent an email to this hotel for price and availability. http://www.hohe-acht.com I stayed there last year nothing fancy good beds & a better breakfast. It may be helpfull, price wise if someone on here could spraken the deutch.

Ferry:
Ferry price depart 8am 29th Dover Dunkirk return 1st June 8pm £49.02 not bad. If you look on Ben lovejoys site there are plenty of hotels and rooms to choose from. May weekends will get booked up fast so its time to get a move on. Nige

Was at the ring last year in March, did some laps in the rain. I drove within my limits and enjoyed the experience, didnt even think about timing myself. My mate who is based in Germany hosted me, said he went a few weeks later and saw a lad stack his brand new evo on his first lap,not only did he have no trackday insurance but he had to pay for the armco too. My point is just take it easy and get yourself there and back in one piece safely

Will have to look into all the costs though, in terms of insurance, breakdown cover etc. I'm pretty sure my insurance company (A-Plan) don't cover the ring, so whats the best thing to do? Any recommendations for track day insurance?
I got mine through Keith Micheals insurance mate, was £70 i think.Breakdown wise i got AA cover for the period i was there, was about £35 if i remember rightly.
