Will need wider tyres than 215/40/18 for a 9 inch rim!

Most people run 225/40/18 on 7.5 or 8 inch rims..... minimum width you'll need is 235 or 245.....

May also be a problem with arch clearance - is it lowered with springs or on coilovers?

9 inch rims on a newage normally run lower ET, something like ET38 IIRC.
They also need to run coilovers due to inner clearances.

Anger would probably have a better idea as he has run some wide options.

Assume they are these?

In which case he's edited the post, they're 8" wide and not 9". 215/40/18 is still a little stretch on a 8" wheel, although arch clearance shouldn't be a problem with 8".
