Default engine rebuild ?

went to get mu scooby mapped today and the mapper wouldnt touch it due to a suspected cracked piston hence the tapping i get when the cars running, anyway, he could strip my blocks down, replace the broken piston and rebuild the engine ie, shells bearings cambelt ect for 2300 with a remap, second option it, 2.1 stroker engine, mahle pistons, manley rods, apr headbolts, acl race bearings, cosworth head gaskets, ver9 nitried crank, mapped and then remapped after the running in period for 3825,all engines are built up chemically cleaned heads lapped in and valves shimmed this is the first quote ive had is it a good price ?

Compression test would fail if you had a cracked piston. I would at least do that before going for a rebuild. If it passed you would know the tapping might be something less expensive

looking through the history of the car its was tested last september where 1 cylinder was low on pressure, the car has had a **** chinese induction kit fitted and 3" turbo back system and wasnt mapped for the mods it boost spikes upto 1.5 bar then drops off to just over a bar and thats what he recons caused the problems, im planning on running 400-450 bhp any way so this could be a good starting point

If it's confirmed you have a cracked piston then I'd definitely shop around for some prices, was it a subaru specialist you went to?

I was going to suggest going there, Neil is very honest and knows his stuff he's looked after my car a few times, i'd recommend SlowBoy Racing, Jura on here had his engine built by him, his thread is in the wagon section
