Worrying resonating sound
Between about 2800 and 3000rpm's i get a rather worrying sound. Its a bit of a metallic resonating clatter. It seems to disappear after about 3100rpm but then that could just be due to the noise produced by the rest of the car. I've got a horrible feeling its coming from the turbo. It'll do it at standstill and moving. Thoughts anyone?
Also i want to get the car serviced soon and i suppose i might as well have them do my brakes at the same time. Anyone know someone good (and cheapish) who can do this in or around Crawley? What sort of price for a service without cambelt? |

Re: Worrying resonating sound
I had that on mine last year, it was the heat shield, just waited for it to cool down and 'pushed' it back out of the way

Re: Worrying resonating sound
You were all right, it was a heat shield somewhere under the turbo, fixed it with a hammer and a pair of pliers
Cheers all! |

Re: Worrying resonating sound
Hmm... This sounds familar.
I get a metallic / resonating sound from O/S engine bay at 3900 revs when decelerating. Only I've taken the heat sheild off, checked sheilds, tightened bolts, chopped bits off, shouted at it... But I still get this noise. Is there such thing as turbo chatter, where the turbo is worn or bearings on the way out? What effects / wear can occur to the turbo to cause such a noise? Also is a TD05 a straight swop for a TD04? Cheers guys |

Re: Worrying resonating sound
Quote:
All other Pre96 have TD05 as standard. For 1997> you need to convert the TD05 to front entry, still a straight swap on the exhaust side fittings, just the air intake needs a new cover plate to convert to front entry (about £50-£70). |
