DIY - 15 Min De-Cat (Newage)
How to save £70-£100 (new price of decat link pipe), DIY De-Cat of 2nd Cat
Tools : Big Hammer Large Screwdriver Large Bar (Trolley Jack Handle) Pliers Mask (optional, but recomended due to dust) Quite a simple job if you know how to swing a hammer...... Cat starts to break up, after several blows of the Hammer on a large screwdriver or trolly jack handle inerted into the cat pipe. Dust particles and small fragments of cat fall out : Look inside, you can see the Cat breaking up..... A few more blow and it all starts to fall out Pliers will be needed to hook out the metal straps and wire mesh that originally held the Cat together. All done.....completley empty canister Last edited by Scott.T; 28-04-2011 at 09:44 PM. |

puka, any difference in sound, with the empty square section would that act as resinator making the note louder??

It will get louder as the Cat acts as a silencer. |

Ah, but emissions may still be an issue but i guess that'd be upto your mot'r

Nope they PASS the MOT test with just one cat.
Alot of people remove the large cat in the DP as this is the most restricitve. If they want to go full decat then also remove the above centre cat, then refit the centre cat only for the MOT. But you run the riskof a roadside VOSA test failing with both cats out. |

only things of note, i'm not sure i'd be too keen on the dust that comes out of them - hazardous or not its an awful job to do and not one i will ever repeat
also, you now have a large cavity rather than a straight thro' pipe so not certain what that would do to exhaust flow but cant be good??

So do we need a remap after doing this scott? It will be interesting to see what difference it makes to the sound and performance. Now, where did I put that hammer..................

straight pipe would get much better flow..
Lucky, if the car is standard and on standard map then you could get away with removing this cat.. if the car mapped already with this cat fitted then it would need an adjustment as it is finely tuned already to suit the current setup. Simon

Agree with all of the above, at the end of the day its free so worth a shot. A lot of other car marque/forum have been doing this sort of thing for year us scooby owners never take the cheap option, so I thought I'd buck the trend.

Good effort, but I thought scrap value for an old cat was around £50 (why some go missing off cars overnight), so why not scrap the cat and buy a 2nd hand decat for £50?

Nice job Scott - If you ever need to borrow it, I think I still have an original newgage cat virtually new that looks like your hawk one.
