Default Oil tepeeature rising

Hi there, iv got a 2002 wrx , just taken it for a spin and found th oil temperature rising slot more than normal, I was just on motorway not going over 75mph and she was hitting 90 - 95 degrees, 2 weeks ago it would onl get to around 80 degrees with enthusiastic driving. The oil wa changed and new filter both from scoobyworld a month ago, is this normal and the oil just wearing in or is there a problem, pretty worried about it. Oil pressure is fine and turbo boost is at standard. Please help!

Nick

Not stating the obvious but the temperature this week is a lot higher than it was last week.

there is a huge snow storm surrounding the BLUE filters which have been all that is available from Subaru for over 18months and they are NOT an issue in our experience (and a large number of other tuners also use them without issue)

as for the oil temps, what spec is your car or totally std?? 90-95 is not a high temp generally speaking
having said that a good quality 5w40 should cope without issue on a fast cruise

Sure is, i got bored halfway through the thread on scoobynet

I'm sure the blue ones are fine, they just look very cheap when disassembled!

IMO the new filters are fine so long as any car using them has oil changed in accordance with service requirements .

The paper end caps on the filter would only become an issue if left in place for an excessive period. Sure, the metal filters are 'better' made and Subaru have no doubt changed due to economic reasons but, the filters probably surpas there requirements and would not be used with being up to standard.

Many filters have been changed over the years, not just the Subaru ones, all without issue. Not worth the argument IMO.

As for the temp rise, could be outside temp effect or different characteristic of the new oil. Would monitor temp over a similar period and see if there's an issue. As mentioned the temp increase is not that great and probably nothing to worry about.

As a side check, have you looked at the water levels. Low level, failing wTer pump could also be a contributing factor, although as it's straight after oil change, it would point to nothing more than using a different oil.

No I havnt got a blue or any normal scooby one , I have a hks pink one, fitted around 3 weeks ago, at the same time as oil change.

I was driving through Brighton and thats when it was hitting 95 - 100 degrees in slow town traffic, that was at like 11pm at 8 degrees outside, then on the dual carriage way was sitting at around 85 -90 degrees. Just thought this was outa the ordinary cus I had peak set at 90 degrees and in the 3 weeks I've had the gauges it's never hit peak even when driving "enthuasiaticly" . Gonna get it booked in for a check and not use it in the mean time :/

It's got a afterburner panel filter , afterburner exhaust system , (downpipe cat left in place), hks ssqv bov , grade 7 iridium plugs and finally I have a boost controller but is left at standard boost and haven't bothered adjusting it . Other than that it's standard.....

with no cooling airflow (as when your stationary or in slow movin traffic) then that temp is as expected IMO, personally think its more to do with you not having your long and also can vary greatly as to which gauge and where its takena reading from???

also never come across the oil you mention so not sure what sort of quality/characteristics it has??

The oil was just what I was recommended by scoobyworld , dont really know what specit is.

I have prosport gauges and they are connected via a sandwich plate adaptor, again all from scoobyworld mate

dont personally like sandwich plates (they are easy to fit which is why they tend to be used)
we always take a feed from the bung above cyl3 just near the turbo as this gives you a peak actual oil temp

Mine runs at 80to85 on the motorway but that's with an oil cooler and sensor in the bung above cylinder 3. My peak temp is 100 but that was on Brands and I use 10w-50 Fuchs racing oil.

TBH the temps don't sound far off depending ongauge accuracy.

Did you have the undertray fitted before and after.
Without an undertray and the prob in the sump or filter sandwich plate you can knock 10 DegC off the temp reading as the sump and/or probe gets cooled in the airflow.

i dont know what the "undertray" is, i basicly bought the full kit from scoobyworld then had the kist fitted by my mechanic.

seems to be pretty stable now and iv got used to it, gets to 100 degrees when im pushing her a bit , but not much more than that.
