Westfield
Been an Itch I've wanted to scratch for years, and call it my mid life crisis car. But picked this up yesterday. Wanted a toy, and criteria was not silly expensive, will hold its value or possibly increase in value, something I can tinker with and fix and service myself, good insurance, but most of all something that is a proper toy that is fun to drive, and something that gives a sense of occasion and will only ever get driven just to go for a drive. Got me back from Andover without any drama's and what a hoot of a drive it was getting it home.
Its running a 1600CVH with Fr33 kent cam and webber 40's. Engineering is basic to say the least which is the appeal, for example toggle switch for indicators etc, even down to what can only be described as a colostomy bag to hold water for the washer jet. Probably only pushing about 130bhp, but in something about 500kg, with no driver aid's what so ever and 2 inches from the ground it's plenty enough to have fun. Some of these are running 200bhp+ which must be mental and very scary. You feel vulnerable enough in this one. Couldn't believe the insurance at £150 a year with wife named on policy, and that's without using my no claims. Anyway thought I'd share, might not be everyone's cupa'T' but nice to finally have something I can have fun driving after a fairly long break from anything fun. |

Nice one Rob and if bought at the right price will not go down in value at all . Welcome to the world of kit cars

Thanks Craig and good to hear from you, It is an early one and bought reasonably well I think, but wasn't being bought with a view to moving it on so probably around market value for this time of year. Got a shoe box of receipts with it which tells me most of what I need to know about its build and bits used which is handy.
Its almost got me tempted to have built one from scratch to a spec of my choice. Such fun cars, few things on the to do list, but not much really other than enjoy it. Will do a oil service at some point, and a general tidy up, and might find someone to check/tune the carbs as I think they might be running a little rich. And Damn it's noisy so might look into a quieter exhaust with a bigger silencer. But all good. |

Certainly looks like fun, I'd love to have something like this but it's nice knowing that the Scoob is there as a back up all year round, couldn't do Crawley and back in a Westfield in winter.

As above, looks great and has to be epic fun to drive. Had a drive in a friends 1970's mini a couple of weeks ago and what fun that was.

Thanks, all and yep certainly fun, and doesn't need to be driven hard to still have fun. But Probably need to do a least one track day at some point to find its limits, as It sticks very well and goes round corners similar to a go-kart, and get the feeling there would be little warning before its steps out. So currently find myself taking it fairly gentle on the corners. But barely driven it yet so confidence of its abilities will come with time.
It will probably be lucky to do a few hundred miles a year but worth it. |

Looks a very nice one, keep posting updates/upgrades as I am very interested in getting a kit car soon. A few months ago I nearly bought a supercharged Luego with a claimed 270bhp 210lb ft but backed out at the last moment.

Generally give good feedback on track before letting go Rob with 60 profile tyres on ,nice and progressive . Bit lary in the damp though and can easily catch you out .
