Is indeed, we are lucky, condolences to those less fortunate, but died doing what they enjoyed. RIP fellow Ringers.

Sad day indeed. But not sure about all the media interest. Alot of bikers don't come home from the ring and they don't get the coverage or sympathy! !!

Rough translation....... from Here: http://www.swr.de/landesschau-aktuel...d=1682/irsr9j/

After the serious accident at the Nurburgring on Saturday to run the investigation. How could it happen that two tourists driver in their car were killed and three others were injured?

Car spun out of curve - two dead
A reviewer should now clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. According to previous police investigation a 29-year-old Frenchman had strayed consolidated in a tourist trip with his car off the road. According to police, the man was driving too fast on a wet road and was thrown in a curve to the left of the track.
The Nordschleife of Eifelstrecke has a tourist area, are allowed to drive on the visitors with private cars.
Marshals seriously injured
The car was crashed into a vehicle of track safety, there another car drivers had previously had a minor accident. The Frenchman and his 29-year-old female passenger still died at the accident site. The two marshals were difficult, but has not been seriously injured, police said. The standing besides the road tourist drivers suffered accordingly a shock.

It is not the first deaths at the Nürburgring. The last momentous accidents in recent history occurred in the past year. During a long-distance race in late March 2015 spectators was killed when a racing car took off before a right turn and crashed into a tire barrier. From there, the car flew over the security fence in the audience.
In April 2015 three people were seriously injured in a closed racing event called Drift Cup event of an accident. Following the security arrangements had been raised for racing. A residual risk remains in motorsport - and tourist drivers go anyway at your own risk on the infamous route.

Very unfortunately incident

I originally assumed that the Honda had lost it going through Kesselchen and hit the other tourist driver's stationary car (from a smaller scrape) which the marshals were tending to. I didn't realise it hit the Ring safety vehicle.

Hope the two marshals injured make a full and swift recovery. This is the kind of incident that could force the Ring's operators to review potential problems like this..... apparently (from what I read) previous working yellow light was before Breidscheid so no wonder the drivers had picked up the pace again assuming the track was clear. Read that the yellow light just before Bergwerk wasn't working??

Really sad to read of this and thoughts are with the families involved of both the deceased and the marshals,
The flag system has needed looking at for years at the ring, but there is some speak of regulatory changes from adding F1 style safety lights (like you see at Spa and Silverstone etc) being the end of tourist days.. as why would a toll road need more than a regular road for warning light system? personally think there should be several of the existing yellows far closer to Kesselchen which has always been a very fast section, but even this will not stop folk from driving too fast, and not obeying the rules.
The following morning the mood at the ring was very a sombre one, ring taxi drivers and rent 4 ring employee's voicing there dismay, however it was still "business as usual" and 2 accidents driven passed in the first lap of the morning at 8.15, including a scoob at pif-paf , lights on and flashing at Metzgesfeld, but still passed by a 944 in a hurry through Kallenhard despite me flashing hazards and slowing down, I was really not impressed, 2 corners later marshals on the track and a crashed scoob, cone'd of through that section., and another with 2 cars a little further along, at the end of the lap the ring was closed again as it was several more times through the day.
I'm sure its been mentioned before but no driving standard is required or safety briefing has been given, how many people have actually read the rules for the ring? how often have you ploughed through those motorway :50: signs without a care as they are always left on for no reason....

Such a sad loss of life and damaging for the ring.

No need for driving like that is there, lights on at Metzgesfeld yet getting overtaken on the next corner??

Haven't heard anything since the accident, assume the marshals are OK?
