If thats your level of French speaking, perhaps you'd better stay at home
I'm not sure that i'd be able to make it, but start throwing together some ideas for locations/how you'd get there etc and people will decide from that if they want to come. If you get a few more interested, then its a winner |

Lille didnt happen last year because,
A, I went to Mexico for my sons wedding, B, Because of lack of finances and interest. What i have suggested in the past is to meet up with Frenchie on his home turf, to let him guide us around his local area.

Looks like this might happen, although Nov/Dec not the best time.If you came to my area I could show you some nice roads.Newhaven to Dieppe would be the route with Transmanche ferries, 4hr crossing but very comfortable and prices are interesting.Dieppe would be best place to stay, plenty of hotels, bars and restaurants plus a Sat market.Drive down to ours is about 1hr 15mins although I've done it in 43mins(thats how I found out that the wing mirrors whistle at 130mph).Lots of sweeping, empty roads without potholes!!

Out of interest what are the price differences between Dover/ Calais and Newhaven/ Dieppe.
I know some people would prefef the shortest ferry crossing and a longer drive in France. How long is the drive from Calais to Dieppe? The timing depends on wether you want to make it a Christmas trip as we did in 2008 or wether its a trip to a different part ie around Normdie

I put some dates in December into the Transmanche website (going out Friday, coming back a couple of days later) and it worked out at about £95 return, with 2 adults in the car. |

I think you would get a cheaper price crossing Dover/Calais ,I can get Newhaven/Dieppe prices.Drive up to Dieppe is about 1hr 30mins on the motorway.

As an example.
If you choose to leave on the Fri 3rd Dec and return on Sun. 5th Dec the fare is £50. from Dover to Calais return. I know some people just dont like the thought of being on a ferry for 4 hours, if we go to Dieppe.

Newhaven to Dieppe ferries leave Newhaven at 0930 and 2230 and return from Dieppe 1800 and 0500.What happened to the British being a nation of seafarers?

Terry, are you kidding.
Some people on here get dizzy spells running a bath And Martyn can't go near water without the urge to fall in it I've never sailed from Newhaven, that would be a nice change to be honest. And a bloody sight easier to get to than Dover |

Newhaven crossings not too bad, 4 hours is quite a while but its either 4 hours on the boat being able to wander around etc, or 2 hrs on a boat and 2 hrs using fuel!
So, what time of year are people thinking? |

End of November beginning of December, make it a winter run just before Christmas.

Taking the bull by the horns so to speak.
It needs to be decided, a, where people want to go ie to the Dieppe region which will involve a 4 hr ferry trip twice a day, or a 70 minute crossing thats cheaper and leaves every hour, and then a 2 hour drive to Dieppe. b, to do a similar trip that we did in 2008 down to Lille. c, when are people interested in going, doing a pre Christmas trip ie early December or to go before the weather starts changing October/November? From a personal point of veiw I think it would nice to meet up with Frenchie as he has spoken about an SES meeting in France many times. Just another idea how about a photo shoot in front of the Eifel tower and a convoy up the Champs Elysees and round the Arc de Triumph, how cool would that be?? This just my opinion and hope it doesnt up set anyone.

Stabalisation(not sure if thats a word) is very good on modern ferries, even in rough weather you have very little movement.Plus the bar is open throughout the voyage.Depends what people want.My part of Normandie is very pretty, very quite with lots of scenic drives, but not good if you want lively pubs and very late nights.
