i read the spool is quick on these also just had a look on google and someone on snet claims he got 372bhp and final map of 410 with 490+ torque so sound promising mate but it depends on supporting mods and mappers could be worth reading in depth on this turbo it does sound promising!

You may have to jiggle with your intake pipe/samco a touch as the Turbo's from the Hawk onwards have DBW throttles. The Turbo has a slight bends on the outlet to clear this.

I woud be interested to know what the spec differences are between the VF28, VF43 and VF48, as it may be something for me to consider (or hang around Nige's garage ready to catch his when he slings it out).

Check it's not cracked like this VF43 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-IMP...item2c6c3e603c

Alot of VF's are doing this but I thought it was only the VF24, 28, 34. Obviously a problemthey havn't resolved.

I wouldn't be suprised if mines the same.

thats not a small crack IMO

43 and 48 seem to have more issues than the early style for some reason

Could that be down to the 48 being a twinscroll?
I've also noticed the Hatch ain't got water spray to the intercooler. So intake temps will be up. Has Subaru sorted a better intake mani on the hatch?

48 isn't twin scroll. If it was it wouldn't be a straight swap.

Yes is bolt on,no modifications, but as above they're known with exhaust housing cracking/wastegate

Second point, those turbo(VF43/48) are more suited to the 2.5L on 2.0L can be more laggier, would rather look for VF34 if its for WRX

For STi I would have look for 18G or good 20G

VF34 is a good upgrade on WRX, had one on mine and made 333bhp & 325ft lbs with STi injectors

Had a vf48 on my sti v4 wagon, bought it nearly new with delivery mileage, they came from a load of cars being converted to rally cars over in Ireland,

It made 333 at 1.4bar on my tired old engine with 90k on it with a front mount and a 2.5" exhaust, it wasn't massive bhp but power delivery was very smooth and linear, good spool from 3200rpm

I would recommend one if you can get a decent one, as others have said check waste gate for cracking / leaking(blow by) giving this a bit of a polish is a good idea before fitting.
