Default Mini Cooper

Friend asked if I would have a clean up of his sisters mini cooper on Saturday.

Lots of road grime, and traffic film, especially on the white wheels.

Bodywork had lots of scratches, particularly a large one by the fuel filler cap, and various swirl marks all over.

Lots of rust bubbles, and dents, and even nail varnished deep scratches to be careful of.

Not perfect by any means, but here are a few before and after shots...

General Traffic Grime:

Big Scratch by fuel filler cap:

General Swirls and Scratches:

Steps taken:
  • As usual I started with a rinse down
  • Snow foamed using Valet Pro PH Neutral Snow Foam
  • Wheels sprayed with Valet Pro Bilberry PH Neutral Wheel Cleaner
  • Small detailing brush on badges, grills, nooks and crannies e.t.c.
  • Wheels scrubbed with various wheel brushes
  • Wheels rinsed
  • Bodywork rinsed
  • Bodywork washed (two bucket method) with Chem Guys Maxi Suds 2 (Had to do one panel at a time as even though 8am, the sun was coming up!)
  • Car rinsed
  • Car clayed using 3M Claybar
  • Machine Polished using Menzerna compounds (cutting then polishing)
  • Black Hole Glaze Coat
  • Finished with Sonax Wax coat
  • Wheels protected with Chem Guys wheel guard

(Lots of corrosion on the back of the wheels - rust bubbles, and also where the paint has actually flaked off)

Good effort!

What machine polisher have you got? I'm thinking about investing as the results seem worth it and I'm keen to learn how to use one.

I have an older version of this one:

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polish...prod_1797.html

DA220 I think mine is...

Lots out there - but as a beginner I would go DA rather than orbital as it has less chance of you muffing the paintwork...

Menzerna compounds are very good IMO for someone of my relative little knowledge...

Ron (pieman) might be able to give more advice

Thanks. I've been looking at a Poorboys DA. Looks very similar to the one in your link in terms of facts and figures.

I'd concluded a DA was for me, so good to hear I wasn't just being paranoid.

I've picked Ron's brains a few times... very helpful and makes you realise how much there is to know!

Gj, Was she pleased?

I hope you gave her careful care instructions to maintain the improved paintwork?
