Calipers
Good afternoon all, after a little advice. Both my front calipers have stuck on over the last year. Is it better to replace or to refurb? And if it's to replace will blobeye or bugeye calipers fit my hawk.

A refurb set would be a better option if your not in a hurry you could always send yours away for a full refurb from the likes of Godspeed , brake specialist etc.

I assume you don't just mean the pads sticking to the discs when parked overnight, but then frees up with a bang when you move?
If the pads are dragging all the time then sounds like sticky pistons, common issue really, especially on the Subaru 4 pots (non-brembos). I assume you've got a WRX based on your username so don't have brembos? Bugeye/blobeye calipers will fit but I'd expect second hand calipers to suffer the same problem. In terms of refurb, it depends how hands on you are - if you feel confident enough to do it yourself, then replacement seals/pistons etc aren't too expensive. Alternatively, Godspeed will refurb 4 pots - they do a lot of Subaru ones and they should come back looking like new in a colour of your choice. https://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/con...ioned-calipers But obviously you will be without them for a while unless you can do a swap/return deal. |

Probably find if youre paying someone else to do it the refurb cost isn't far off a set of second hand brembos. This can be a bit of a minefield though with stripped mounting threads and bleed nipples plus the additional cost of new discs and pads if needed. Would also need to confirm your current wheels will clear the calipers.
I have the 4 pots but with Stainless Piston and I've still had problems with them sticking but that's Probably more through lack of use. It's quite easy to strip them and clean them up but a bit long winded, once one Piston is out you can't pump the others out so it's a bit of a game with small g clamps stopping each Piston before they come fully out. The other option is to split the caliper but never fancied that. |

It's a wrx, piston stuck out clamping pad onto disc. May invest in some new ones then. Thanks all for your advice.

4 pot rebuild kit if you want to refurb your own:
https://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/imp...-seal-kit.html If you want to replace the calipers, you can get aftermarket 4 pots which were designed as an exact replica of the original Subaru calipers - they just say 'WRX PRO' on them instead of Subaru. Godspeed sell them but can't find the link, they look like this: https://www.subaruforesterparts.co.u...grade-calipers But I would have thought a Godspeed refurb will be slightly less than buying new calipers. |
