It's an offence to do so

Road Traffic Act offence of 'quitting' which is when a person leaves their vehicle's engine running while they are not in it, any one know the act, I can't find it

Regulation 107(1) of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulation 1986 (S42 of the RTA 1988)

Regulation 107(2)(a). This states that no person shall cause or permit to be on any road any motor vehicle which is not attended by a person duly licensed to drive it unless the engine is stopped and the parking brake is effectively set. Exemptions to the requirements of this Regulation as to the stopping of the engine include a fire brigade vehicle, the engine of which is being used for any fire brigade purpose.

Just thought id throw that in

Potentially invalidates insurance as it falls under not taking due care.

It would be on my drive.... Also even if it's not on my drive... The new Nissan skyline gtr- r35 has remote start. Why are they allowed to do it as a manufacturer but I'm not as an enthusiast??

Most have a rev cut off, e.g of you try to move the car it immobilises and the alarm sounds. I could of had remote start as an option on mine but as it would invalidate the thatcham category 1 therefore my insurance it wasn't worth it. Also as I have a manual there is a chance I could leave it in gear which could be expensive on a remote start!

My mate done that in his old Renault 19, went straight in to the back of a land rover!

Anyway, as far as I know, as soon as you do something to trigger the alarm, ie open the door, break window, stand too close if fitted with proximity, the alarm activates and the engine is imediately cut and imobilised. It's imposible to drive the car off whilst under remote start operation. Even if you did manage to get in, the second you touch the throttle, it cuts, imobilises and alam will sound. Same is for the built in turbo timer. Not sure why it invalidates the thatcham 1 status as it's perfectly safe/theif proof, but it does.

Do you know if there are any plans for thatcham to include/accept these options or have they already flatly refused? They've been available for ages now so I guess they've already refused....
