Default Sporting Ford's (You have Owned)

Was sorting out some old piccies to hang/brighten up my garage, so thought I'd post a bit'o'my old Sporting Ford History.

Feel free to add your own past Sporting Fords.......

Fiesta SuperSport 1.3
Toe in the water Excercise by Ford before Mk1 XR2

Escort Mk3 RS1600i
One of the best handling car's I have ever owned, especially with the 'Optional' rear anti-roll bar.

Escort Mk3 Series 1 Turbo
180BHP FWD, would rip ya thumbs off with Torque Steer
Was near Concourse Condition, alas HPI detailed it as 'Scrapped' 18months after I sold it

Sierra 3-Door Cosworth
270BHP, always wanted one, got it then sold it after 6 months...didn't live up to expectations.
Oh! and 3-Doors and new baby did not mix....

Never owned a Ford,

I started out with the original hatch back, followed by another.

Then a Triumph Toledo, for the mrs.

Then a long line of Vauxhall Astras,

starting with a white GTE mk1 which used to go round corners as if it was on rails. It was brilliant.

Then SRIs and GTEs and a GSi.

Scott
All very nice mate.
I would love the series 1 rs turbo.
I took my bmw for windscreen over tonbridge other day and in the workshop where they fit the glass was a mint, i mean concours RS1600i orange even the dash was mint , no cracks at all,it was under covers but i noticed the wheels, needless to say i got the guy to uncover it.
And yes its for sale.
I will dig my XR3i and saph cossi pics.
XR3i was ex demo.and cossie brought from stormont ford as 1 owner 21,000 miles, had it for 4 years, then had 100 plus mph misshap oops.

No cracks in dash is rare, my RS1600i had cracks back in 1989.
Series 1 was Crack free

I bet the RS1600i hasn't got the original unique to 1600i Battery Tray, mine was a combination of filler and underseal

Great pics Scott.

I only ever owned 1 Ford. Can't even remember what year it was. Not got any pics either.

It was a yellow Cortina Estate, it drove like a Land Rover but wit MORE body roll and play in the steering wheel!

After owning the MK3 for a while i started to realise how much i missed the MK2! sure the MK3 had a few more luxury's in it and it was obviously newer but some how it didn't feel as special.
I think its right what clarkson said though "Newer cars are getting slower" !!!

Oh yes, I forgot about the XR3s I had in 1981 - better left that way I think.

I bought the RS2000 when it was 6 months old from a chap who had another one in storage and unused. At the time Ford was trying to shift those RS1800 things, but I didn't want anything to do with alloy heads I could have picked up a new RS1800 for the same money I paid for the RS2000.

Must have missed this thread, but worth dragging back up in light of some recent nostalgia.

In true fashion of my car ownership I've had just a few fast fords . Lots of escorts of most derivatives, plenty of crappies, and cossies as well. Will see if I can dig up a few pics.

Best of all for me have been the saph Cossie's which gave 4 door practicalilty, comfort and bonkers performance for a chassis that could never handle it.

I remember going to a scoob meet many years back when I had a white Saph and we all went out for a drive to beachy head if recall. All the scoob drivers were having a spirited drive but nothing silly. But in order to keep up in the saph I was spinning up in 2 and 3rd on the exit of all corners and having to really concentrate. I was at the back so none of you new what was going on - You all arrived envigorated with a slight smile, I arrived like I had just taken and 'E'.

Great cars, and great days.....

Flint grey Sierra Saphire RS Cosworth, rwd and stage 1 with a big hybrid on it, spent and lost a lot on that car, died after a trip to castle coombe, ended up breaking it, had a lot of fun in it while it worked

Love the Cossie in your original post Silversurfer!

I have to confess that I've long had a soft sport for fast Fords. If I were to win the lottery tomorrow I would definately have some Fords on the shopping list.

More pictures please former (or even current) fast Ford owners!

I've got those tucked up in the loft somewhere. It's been around a while.

I've probably got a piccie or two of it at a show too....

This was one of the first RS500's to get near to BTCC Grp'A' power back in the day.
it's seen a few style/looks over the years.

Looks nice and original now but I preferred it's look when it was on the Gold Compomotives.
When it had the Ford Graphics it was one of my favorite RS500's of the day.

Not got pics unfortunately, but had a Mk 2 Escort 1.6 ghia, followed by a Mk 1 RS2000 in yellow with orange stripes (sold it for £1500 in 1988 ). Then had an XR3 (not i), what load of rubbish that was after the RS. and six (yes 6!) Orion 1.6i Ghia's, the last having a turbo conversion, but looked totally standard

Get a cheap scoob to use as they were intended and park it on your drive, and get a classic ford toy for the garage.

I cant remember the last time I have spotted a 70/80's classic ford on the road. It would certainly turn my head now if I spotted a Cossie, S1, supersport etc on the road.
