The next mod's?
Right, Now its out of warranty, I am thinking of now doing a few more bits to the car , but any guidance/comments would be good.
Its fairly standard at the mo apart from and afterburner deres section, afterburner rear box and a remap by JGM which has taken it to around 340 bhp/360lbs/ft. I am thinking now of changing the first cat (downpipe) to a sports cat and then doing away with the 2nd cat. Then back to jgm for a tweak to the map. Also eibachs to lower it a little and a whiteline rear arb. Question is: how much increase will I see in performance with sports/decat etc, and, without going mad with new turbo's and front mounted intercoolers, is there anything else I can do? I guess I'm looking to get to around 380bhp, but drivability and reliablitiy are a major factor.

isnt it quick enough at 340 bhp mate? I am more than happy with mine at 280 standard, as it is very quick and very reliable.

lol, I know mate, and I said it was plenty quick enough (which it probably is). i think what got me thinking was I got temped with changing it for the Type 25 that litchfields have got at the moment, but cant justify around £12000 difference in price between two cars the same age (all be it completely different in every other way!), so, that got me thinking about keeping mine and playing with it again.

get the whiteline rear arb and whiteline drop links added to it and then make your mind up from there - had mine done last weekend and its like a different car in the twisties!
should have done it ages ago! |

It's one of those how much do you want to spend things realy?
For starters, for what you want, there is no need to go front mount at all. I'm sure someone will either back me up on the next one or give different numbers, but a full de-cat from what I can understand will give you about 40bhp. (That's my next mod) The things I would recommend would be: Turbo / Injectors (I presume you are on 550's?) / De-cat / re-map. You could then if you were feeling flush, also add things like forged pistons (not rods unless you REALLY need to) bearings? Then there is Coilovers and brakes to add into the mix potentially. I'm sure someone could give you some costs, speak to CJ & Dyney first though, as I have found out since buying my bits that they might be able to help pricewise with their contacts. Good luck with it mate, it is a minefield out there! |

Handling mods are best first, then power

Power wise youare starting to get into doggey terrortory soon so would forge it or as said above go the handling route

A sports cat won't give much more. A full decat will only give a little.
Your biggest restrictor at the moment is the turbo. needs a bigger one to get a difference your buttometer will feel anything less you may feel an initial improvement but will get used to it within hours if not minutes. |

Get a Td5 20g on there for the money they are fantastic. Quick spool a good kick in the back and pulls all the way to the red bit. Have Tone port your headers keep your top mount. For less than £1k you will smile everytime you get in it. Have Scott sort you out with a map job done 380/390 bhp + 400+ ftlb as Worzel would say happy day's Take it to the Ring thrash the nadds out of it and wipe the smile off some of them Porker drivers.

Thanks guys. So it looks like to make any serious difference, its turbo etc.... Think i'll sort the handing first, as i'm far from unhappy with the performance as it stands, just wondered what the next step would be.

whiteline arbs and anti lift kit would be starters, then do the brakes.
The 2.5's aren't as strong as the 2.0's so you are playing with fire boosting it up too high. Forged 2.5 (which is where i will go in a couple of years) will be a torque fest when its properly mapped. |
