Default Going to JRM

Hi folks,

Booked myself in with JRM on Thursday for a geo, can't wait.

I'm thinking of taking my kids and the better half for a road trip.

Is there anywhere close by that I can take them too?

Steve

If the kids are boys, they'll be happy just walking around JRM!. Seriously though, Rye itself is quite nice if the weather is good. A few nice places to eat etc, but its a bit of a walk from JRM itself.

Rye would be good.

Check out the hand made chocolate shop near the church.

Go to the top of the church tower.

Loads of places to eat.

The Mermaid Inn is nice and its in "the" street in Rye, Mermaid Street,

its a picture postcard street and has been used on many a film set.

I couldn't see any. I was going to drop mine off and walk into rye at one point but decided it was to far. I suppose you could cab it back in, which wouldn't be too expensive. How long does the geo take?. There would be enough to look at for a good hour or so. I just stood and stared at the EVO RS400 whilst doing alot of dribbling

If you were to ask I wouldnt be surprised, if someone at JRM could give you a lift to Rye, or you could get a cab.

You may be better off dropping the family off 1st in Rye. Its only about 1 mile if that & you would stand more of a chance with a lift if there is only one person.

Does anyone travel this route daily? Being asked by the misses to sort out the route due to the kids etc. OWNED.

Can you tell me if there are any road works etc? Not sure if to carry along the M25 up to the A20/M20 or M25 to the A21?

Any suggestions?

Steve

Well, what can I say. What a set up they have at JRM. I was shocked.

Wonderful members of staff. And the young lady on reception was fantastic.

Day didn't start off well. Some knob on a push bike hit my car and then when I got out the car the question him he denied it. TWAT. Just the wing mirror or wing I think he hit.

The weather. Jesus christ .

Got held up on the A21 to be told 4 cars ahead the the road was being closed off and to take the junction leading up to the road closure. I didn't have a clue where I was so just headed for something that sounded like it was heading towards Rye. So after driving down flooded country roads not knowing where the **** I was I looked at my sat nav and headed for for the M20 .

Finally got to JRM 30mins late in the pooring rain, got the kids and misses out and headed inside.

Sadly during the GEO I was told by Mark (I think) that my rear near side bush has seized and there was little they could do (as the set up I wanted) so they set it up as best as they could for the time being. Nuts!!

So, I'll be heading back there very soon for a full set up with corner weight, coilover ride height setting etc.

Would like to thank the members at JRM for there patience as my kids were shocking with there behaviour today. I was a little annoyed with them to say the least.

Other than the rain and a car covered in **** I can't wait to go back.

Steve

Shame about the bush problem stopping you getting the full set up.

It really is a great place isn't it. Mark certainly knows his stuff he done Martyns, left it to him to set things up how he liked it! to say Martyn was happy would be an understatement.

As for JRM, wow what a place, maybe not the cheapest option but you certainly get a top service and workmanship. Work shop, waiting rooms, staff etc etc could not be better in my opinion.

Shame the weather wasn't better for you, what with the family going as well...

Look forward to reading the write up following your next trip with full set up.

Got my quotation through on email yesterday for replacing the shagged bush (asked for a price to replace both) and FULL geo with corner weights, ride height the lot etc.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! lol

Need to think about it as with Christmas around the corner not sure I can justify the price at present.

I know they are not the cheapest but they are the best I have seen for the Geo Get the bush done elsewhere and have the set up done there

IIRC Mark told Martyn not to bother with the corner weighting unless the car was a dedicated track car, saying it will show no benefit under fast road conditions?

Are they still on the £75/hr rate?

Not wrong. Guess you get what you pay for.
I have been using Powerstation for years and fancied a change. I understand it is £75/hr rate.

Only reason I am getting the corners weights and having ride height is that I haven't had it done since Jan 2008!! lol And will be over the next year or so like to use the car for a few track days here and there too.
Myself and a few knob jockeys like WRX Mike,Angus and a few others including my little boy have ****ed around with the adjustables on the coilovers so much the car according to Mark was unbalanced. So agreed on him starting from scratch.

for general road use and the occassional track day you are probably far better off setting the ride heights correctly and getting the geometry correct than having the car corner weighted..............
unless you always drive in the same format (load wise) the car will constantly change as you let your friend out and get the wafer thin model in for a spin round the track to show her your capabilities (always happens in my experience )

far different to a race/competing car which will always run to pretty much the same load

said far better than I ever could

Corner weighting, Track car yes
Road car No

Let Mark set the Geo up how he would do it himself, he uses a little less camber than if it was his own but really does set them up well.

It will be fine running on track days, Martyn done the handling day on the airfield at North Weald and the set up did not suit the conditions. If it was a better surface (proper track) the car would have been perfect.

This said, the ride on the road works very well indeed. Which echos ASp reply above.

Cheers for the imput guys.

I need it done as it's been a while. But the price is puttng me off. Wouldn't normally moan about paying for it. Just seems a tad bit more than what I have been used to at Powerstation over the years.

Dukeboy, think you may well have a point there. lol
