New alloys or refurbish?
Evening everyone. My bugeye is currently having the rust cut out of the rear arches and being replaced with repair panels and then having a full respray done and I’ve got the dilemma of refurbishing my current wheels which are 17 inch or buying new ones in 18 inch. I’ve done plenty of reading on here so if I’m correct I will need 18 x 8 and the closer I get the offset to ET42 the more the wheel will fill the arch. Is that correct?
My car is currently on stock suspension but I will probably lower it next year so if I go with ET42 offset will I rub if lower the car? Also with regards to tyres I guess 225s will be a better choice than 235s if rubbing was going to be an issue? Cheer guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Your pretty much correct in what your saying.
235 will be close to the shock body, 18x8 et42 on 225 will be spot on. But it will be a firmer ride, ive just switched from 18s back to 17s and the difference was huge for me, |

I think this is more of an issue on the classics. 18" on newage is fine

Thanks for the input guys. If I keep my 17’s I will probably need spacers to fill the arches. The 18s I was looking at were these.
These came in 18x8 but I’ve just had an email telling me that ROTA are out of stock currently. They have suggested these wheels, They come in loads of colours but it seems like no 18x8. They come in 18x8.5. I’m not sure how that would effect what offset I would need. I’ve read all about allot offset and to be honest it’s still confusing! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Morning. I finally pulled the trigger last night after trying to decide new or refurbished and went with new. I ordered a set of lightweight alloys in 18 inch. I went with Fondmetal 9RRs in gloss gold wrapped in 225/40/18 Michelin pilot sport 4 tyres. They come in at just under £1500 a set with tyres but I think it will be worth it. They weigh 8.5kg per alloy but I’m unsure what my 17s weigh at the moment so not sure how much difference it will actually make but 8.5kg seems really light. These wheels look like they belong on a Subaru in my opinion. I’m looking to Ceramic coat them when they arrive and leaning towards Gtechniq C5 wheel armour at the moment. Cheers guys.
