g/box front driveshaft splines
did an oil change today and while underthe car, I noticed the splines coming out of the gearbox that the front driveshafts connect to move in an out a little and up and down changing the angle slightly. I am guessing the bearings on the output shafts are worn and need replacing.
Can this be done in the car or does the box need to be removed? |

ok, have now worked out that it's the front diff backlash that needs adjusting as it's set too lose, the bearings don't need replacing, but, there is a special tool that is needed to do this which ive seen on the net for $112 USD.
annyone have this tool I could borrow one weekend, or know where I could get one in the UK cheap ? tool part number is 499787000 and looks like this:- https://subaru.spx.com/Detail.aspx?id=168 it slides over teh output spline and rotates the plate which it protrudes from screwing it in/out to adjust tightness |

thats what I thought but i've read on the net that the bits that stick out on the plate break off !
have yuo tried it like that? think Iwill give it a go rather than fork out for the tool as it's a bit pricey for something I will use only once |
