Rear Spolier Spoiler
Ello folks, I have garaged the WR1 for a bit. Hope to give her a full clean / detail etc which she is in the dry. On another forum I have seen a few folks take there rear spoilers off and seems to be a common theme of rust underneath.
Any one here had any experience with this or the best thing to do ? I have never taken the spoiler off. Is there anything which needs to be done for the refit. I kind of dread it having seen some photos of what they look like underneath. |

Have a look at both mine and Rob's project threads - it shows the rust you speak of. Very common areas.
Quite simple to take off the spoiler, nuts all round underside of boot lid. I had mine sprayed, but refitted with rubber washer above and below the boot lid, sandwiched with a metal washer on the underside to provide as good a water tight seal as I could... Ryan

Ive dealt with this, I had to sand down, wire brush, treat and re-paint under the spoiler,
You should if your re-fitting replace the rubber/foam dust lip round the spoiler before re-fit + I personally silicon sealed around bolt holes/fittings points. I DIY'd the paint with primer/paint/lacquer (cans) took a while but easy enough and you can get a bloody good finish if your patient, (not that anyone see's it under the spoiler). hopefully yours isn't too bad.

I recently took my boot spoiler off
No rust underneath but some of the bolts were really difficult to get off and had drill one of them. Then new nuts and tigerseal. |

Underneath the spoiler on my old boot lid, which had been silicon sealed in to place too
Underneath the spoiler on my current boot lid, after time cleaning and polishing, notice all the scuffs, marks and scratches in various places |

Did mine last summer it wasn't pretty
Bad Dremel that **** And rust prime/treat, then mask off (allow correct drying time) Then prime, Then a few coats of paint (allow time between coats 15/20mins if it's warm) Then a coat or two of lacquer (remember to blend into any visible area's) Then take a snap of your car spoilerless before refitting, remember to seal any bolt holes that have dodgy looking rubber seals
