Default ASDA Charity Day at Bruntingthorpe on 8th August

Hi guys, hope you're all doing well. Ok, some of you may know that a few of us from the P1WOC have set up another P1-forum. It is called P1OC. However, of course we are still organising the ASDA Charity Day and would love to have you lot with us again. Because quite a few guys are disappointed every year because they can't make it, we decided to start the thread early this year to give you the chance to pencil the date into your calendar. I have just copied my post from last year but I guess most of the things will remain the same. However, as soon as I know more, I will update you guys. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in August. xxx

ASDA Charity Day will take place at RAF Bruntingthorpe, which is only 45 minutes north of London, on 8th August 2015.

It's awesome fun and one of the best events of the year and all you petrol heads and your families will hugely enjoy this.

This show is NOT open to the public but invite only and last year we raised £53,000 for the chosen charity. Any ideas to raise some more money are more than welcome.

You can take your own car round the track for free as often as you want to, provided you take a passenger along who had paid £5 for donation at the gates (prices tbc)

Accomodation: The Hinckley Island Hotel, where we stayed the past two years on Friday and Saturday was £55 per room per night when you mention that you want to book it for the ASDA Charity DAY. (prices tbc) The quote is "On your marks". http://www.thehotelcollection.co.uk/...eicestershire/

!!!! Attention please: The info below is still to be confirmed and I only copied and pasted it from last year's thread. I'm pretty sure it will all be about the same this year but I'll update this first post as soon as I hear about any changes.

Entrance is actually free for car club members but we would like to ask everybody who is attending for a donation of £10 per pass which I will collect again when I give you your passes and will then hand it over to Chris Buckler. One pass per car, no matter how many people are in it. Passes will be handed out in the hotel or at gate or at Shell garage (LE9 6QD) on Saturday morning.

Food & drinks are excellent and much cheaper than normal shows (no profit).

The pits are full up with every petrol heads dream cars.

Pay £5.00 and jump in any car you like for a fast lap. Lap includes a longggggggg straight and plenty of twisties. There are many gates so there are NO queues.

Lambo's, Ferrari's, All Skylines (up to 1000 bhp), AMG Mercs, TVR's, Corvette's, Evo's, Scoobies and many more.

Air Displays run for much of the day including wing walkers.

Fire Brigade display how they tackle a raging fire. Sirens and the full works putting out a blazing caravan.

You can drive 40 foot artics, hovercrafts and JCB type machines ALL £ 5.00 each.

We will have a template of the tickets so we can print off as many as you guys need.

No queues, ample parking and easy to get to.

(This is classed as a "Private Event". Due the insurance matters regarding rides in cars it can not be advertised to invite the general public)

Room booking

In case any of you lads would like to stay with us at Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicester, there is a discount for the ASDA-day. Unfortunately prices have increased. It's
£67 per room per night (incl breakfast) this year. The quote is "On Your Marks". I booked it for Fri and Sat (7th and 8th August). So that was £134 altogether. The phone number is 01455 631 122.

However, I had a look and they have another deal on at the moment which is only £123.60 for two nights also including breakfast. If you try it, enter SU01 (S,U,zero,1) in the code box.

Hi Kerstin

I've updated the phone number in your post above (from the hotel website) as it was missing a digit from the dialling code.

Sorry Kerstin, due to my wagon being damaged at Goodwood earlier in the year and the replacement car still being built, I am going to have to pull out of this. I may be able to bring the Golf R32 again if you wish, but I understand you have a lot of Scoobies on the track.

regards

Hi Simon, I'm gutted to hear about your bad luck with your wagon. Anyway, you're more than welcome to bring the Golf along.

A bit more info on the day, most of all for the guys who haven't been at ASDA Charity Track Day before.

How to get your passes:

- in hotel or
- at the gate at Bruntingthorpe Airfield (postcode LE17 5QS) at 8 am on Saturday morning or
- you can drive to the Shell petrol station at Coventry Road near Broughton Astley (postcode LE9 6QD), fill up with V Power then go across the road and wait in the pub carpark, where we all meet on Saturday morning. We need to leave there at approx 7.20am to be at the airfield at 8 am.

OUT ON TRACK

You are welcome to take your own cars around for one lap or as many as you want but you will need a passenger that has paid £5.00 for the lap. You will be tugged by the event organisers if they see a driver only in a car.

You can't stay out on track for multi laps. You can only do one lap at a time, then drive into the large pit area where many public will be lined up to jump in. The public would have already paid a fiver.

Drive at your own pace as it's not a race. Helmets are an option but not compulsory, unless you bring a caged car.

You will also need a special ticket / pass to allow you to go on track driving your own car.
These passes can be shared between the lads who offer passenger rides as they must be evident when out on track. There will be plenty available.

There will be a drivers meeting at 8 30am. A few of you guys need to go to that and then pass the info to everyone else although most of you know the rules by now.

RIDES AS A PASSENGER

If you would prefer to leave your car on the stand all day and jump in other cars as a passenger that is fine and no problem at all.

You will find the pits are extremely busy all day, and you can jump in any car of your choice (for a fiver). Helmets are an option but not compulsory unless you want to be a passenger in a caged car.

ATTRACTIONS

There are many other attractions going on all day what you can participate in:

4x4 off road motors that are giving rides ,full size 40 foot Asda trucks you can drive and several other things.
There is normally something going on in the sky for a large chunk of the day from stunt displays - Spitfires to wing walkers.

MUNCH

All food & drink is non profitable so the prices are less than you would normally pay and it's not cheap stuff.

KIDS

There are many activities for all ages of children. ASDA do base this single day event on the whole family.

NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

As mentioned before this event is "invite only". It's not advertised to the public anywhere.

Ok, Chris, Clive just told me that people must wear a helmet in a caged car. Are you able to bring a second one? I'll post it on the P1OC that I suggest bringing a helmet to get into your car if you like. Will add this also to the info in my post above.

Anyone else wants to join us, guys?

Just a little reminder, we will drive to
the Shell petrol station at Coventry Road near Broughton Astley (postcode LE9 6QD) on Saturday morning, fill up with V Power, then go across the road and wait in the pub carpark to meet up with more guys. We need to leave the carpark at approximately 7.20am because we need to to be at the airfield at 8 am because the drivers briefing starts at 8.30 .

Ask for a favour: I will have some spare passes with me, however, it is better to let me know if you would like to join us before the 6th August to make sure I have enough passes with me as I will be flying to the UK on the 6th.

If you would like to meet us at the gate at Bruntingthorpe Airfield (postcode
LE17 5QS), we will be there at around 8 am. Please, let me know that you're waiting there so that we know who we will have to look for as it's usually quite busy there.

Cheers guys. If you have any more questions, just let me know. Really looking forward to seeing you all. xxx

I thought I post this, guys. I stole it from Skullfudge. He posted these tips two years ago. Maybe of some help for some of you. xxx

You won't need to do anything but attend the drivers briefing (at 8.30 am on the day). You wont get a more relaxed event than this.

No need to thrash your car either. Remember most passengers will find it a fast car anyway. Weather you do 2 laps or 20 laps it's no big deal.
Looking at it from your point of view you wont find a opportunity of driving your car on track for free anywhere.

If you have ever wondered what your car would be like on track you wont find a more ideal situation to try it.

Points to bare in mind are:-

1.
It's not a race.

2.
You can only overtake on the main straight so you may well find you need to back off if catching other cars until you reach the long straight.

3.
Drive within your limit.

4.
If you are thinking to yourself "I've never been on track before" .... don't worry about it. You will find your natural limits and you will REALLY enjoy it !.

5.
No need to drive down the straight flat out either. I backed off at 130 ish on most runs last year. It's the corners that the passengers like as you dont really experience speed on such a vast open area.

6.
Keep your eye on oil temps and if they rise park up and enjoy the event
