Suspension dilemma
Wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Currently have standard sti shocks with Tein S tech lowering springs on my sti at the moment, this is what the car had when I bought it. The front of car is a bit lower than rear. However one of the front springs has just recently snapped!!! therefore need to get it replaced. Have been looking on ebay for a front pair as it will be near on impossible to find just one for sale on its own... no luck. Tried ringing Tein they weren't very helpful and state I need to buy a new set of four which retails around £180-200. I'm thinking do I spend another £200 on four new springs and then possibly in the near future the shocks may go as well OR do i go the whole hog and go for some BC coilovers instead???
Really wanted to get a Blitz Nur spec exhaust this month, been saving for that but because of the shock snapping the suspension kind of takes priority now lol. I could probably get the springs and the exhaust for the price of the coilovers but its decision time I guess. Any thoughts? Thanks |

Actually snapped?? Never heard of this, did you hit a bump/dip before it happened?

Think I must have gone over a pothole or something mate approx a quarter of the one of the coils has snapped off. The car pulls to the right quite badly now because of it.

You will go quicker with coilovers than the exhaust!

Vauhall Springs are always snapping......known issue (but they won't tell you that).

The E46 M3 was very prone to this.
Mine had two rears replaced before i brought it. How old are your STI shocks,as thats really relevant to how much life there likely to have left in them, and wether its worth fitting new springs or not. What i will say is i have just replaced my shocks and springs with BC coil overs. The shocks i had were the WRX KYB's with a lowered spring set, they lowered the car nicely and kept the comfort which was fine, however the BC's are in a diferent league, the car feels so so much better, and its not even set up yet.I have spent a couple of days trying a number of settings and have now found a great setting which gives a firm but not harsh ride, but more importantly the car feels so sorted. Loving it and wishing i had changed years ago. From what i know now, i personally would go for coil overs 1st then the exhaust, that way the car will handle when you stick a nice exhaust on,which lets face it will lead to you driving it a little harder |

I have to say, I agree with Hongkong, Its amazing what replacing old shocks can do for the car, and for driver confidence.
I'd go hole hog, and get uprated ARB's and new droplinks.

I'm not sure how old the shocks are I've only had the car about five months and have no invoices from the service history stating they had been replaced. They are probably still the same ones from when the car was built and the car has done 47k miles. It's a pretty bumpy ride at the moment with the teins on, the mudflaps aren't too far from the ground. Where did you get your coilovers from and do they come with a warranty?

I was lucky as i got mine from Moley_WRX as he broke his Classic, they were not many months old.
Not sure about the warentee There are a few on here with the BC's which will give you the answers. |

The BC coilovers felt good on Moley's car. Worth the money
The Nur spec sounded great on my scoob, also worth the money. But get the car handling right first. Then go for exhaust |

Went for the BC Coilovers in the end, they arrived today. I cannot wait to get them on the car. Will be selling the standard STI Shock absorbers when they are off so if anyone is interested give me a shout.
