Default brakes or lack of!!!

Coming back from hastings today, shall we say swiftly,i braked hard for a roundabout and found the brakes werent up to much .Upon leaving the roundabout with a butt clenching drift(more luck than skill).
when i got back home and changed my boxers,I had a good look but nothing was out of place.i think it was just brake fad.
I have standard discs and pads (the pads have lots left on them and the discs are ok ,they have a slight lip on them).

I dont have to much cash at the moment so any ideas on a cheap upgrade?
what pads are good (i do tend to drive quite hard)
Is it worth changing the brake fluid(it look and feels ok)

brake fluid change would help alot, standard subaru brakes are very poor imo.

A higher temp brake pad will help too, but the only solution if you intend to drive "swiftly" are bigger upgraded brakes.

Try some Ferrodo DS2500 pads (£100'ish)
