How much all up 6 speed conversion on a classic ?.
Anyone give us a ballpark price what it would cost for parts and labour to do a 6 speed conversion on a classic - All up price ?.
Thanks |

Around 1900 to 2200 for everything then labour ..... I don't know as I'd do it myself but probably 6hours work, maybe less maybe more depending.

You need to ask yourself also is it worth it, a lot of people who go this route, only do so because of the power/ torque output of their engine. The 6 speed I hear is hard to get on with , people often missing 5th and getting 3rd etc etc.

Ok thanks - Had a hawk STI, and must say I much prefer the feel of the 5 speed.
But I'm considering something at the moment, and for the power in question it would need a 6 speed or a rebuild PPG which could spiral in cost. And I don't like whinny boxes as a daily driver. Hence 6 speed. My consideration as the moment is more whether i can be bothered with the aggravation of it all. |

Srub above gone off that idea of a project as its not something I can do.
Terminator X old classic is back on the market on snet, and owner would now sell for 4K for quick purchase. Say 3K for 6 speed conversion gives you a 447bhp forged classic with 6 spped for 7K or less if you do it yourself. Nice car for someone - But I'm out as they say. |

Got the T-Shirt
A decent low milage 6 speed will cost you up to 3K. I paid 2.5K for a UK 6 speed with 15,000 miles on it. In addition will be the labour. I must admit I never liked it at first. I found the gears to close together and normal driving in traffic will result in many more gear changes that a 5 speed due to ratios. However, I have now got used to it and its nice for the street. On track its VERY easy to select the wrong gear when down shifting. !!!!! |

I payed 2k for mine and it had done about 16k but not rear hubs but I still using my original diff , having a 5 speed for 7 year the 6 has taken a bit of time to tune in too, The 6 speed makes it a bit more aggressive as the first 4 gears are not far from the first 3 of a 5 speed .

About 2K Rob for for all the bit's. it wouldbe approx7 hour job for Vince at £35p/h.
5 speeds do last if treated well. I think the later 5 speed is better then the 96-98 variants. Plus there's always the type R option you went for on your last 2.5 classic. |

Could really do with a UK box in mine - don't have any issues with shifting in the 6 speed (short throw modded) but could do with out the 3.5k rpm at 80!

I paid 1600 quid for my 6 speed, and I fitted it all myself mate .
There are bargains out there if you want fancy dccd then expect to pay for it. |

^^^ and Krissyb sold his old drivetrain to me so the 6-speed conversion doesnt cost as much as you think if your current drivetrain isin decent condition !
