I just use some 1500 then 2500 grit paper, then a compound. Can It be used by hand, or do you have a machine?

Toothpaste only works on glass as good as a polish as glass has no uv protective coating
Anything more than a pure liquid is an abrasive on the coating even though it polishes up.

When you've got them sorted use some Meguires PlastRX
http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/225/Plast-RX/ Or Meguires Headlight protector http://www.meguiars.co.uk/product/45...ht-Protectant/ To keep them from going cloudy again. I found the PlastRX can't be used with a machine polisher as it gets sticky when it gets warm due to the friction. There is a 3M kit available for restoring them as well which is supposed to be quite good. Shane |

When I got my bug a month ago during its first real clean/polish session a bit of polish got onto my headlight, I thought sod it and continued with rest of the light. Gave it the same bit elbow I used on rest car and low and behold, it started to remove the 'fog'. A month later and 4 cleaning/polishing sessions later, no more foggy lights at all - thank you tesco own brand car polish!

My misses used a scouring pad on her Pug 206 headlight as she had some "tar or bug ****" on it. Scratched it to peices! I got the orbital polisher out, and some V36 polish, after 30mins of progressive buffing, it looks better than new!

Finally got round to it yesterday, Dad bought the Meguiars kit with me 50:50 as he wants to try it on something else...
Pretty pleased we didn't need to use the sanding and finishing pads, just be sure to towel off the residue straight away! Before and after Last edited by riiidaa; 06-04-2014 at 09:46 PM. |
